It is at this time of year, when autumn is passing through the equinox of its own ordeal and the solstitial gates are about to open to welcome that inflexible general whom no one has been able to defeat, winter, that Madrid illuminates in a very special way, and echoes of old cinematic fantasies that made history come to mind.
Just like the romantic curse that served as the plot of Richard Donner's extraordinary film, 'Ladyhawke,' where its protagonists had barely a fraction of a second to see each other at dawn, autumn and winter, although they have a little more time, make Madrid a cinematic setting, one that certainly deserves to be experienced and, above all, enjoyed.
Since the Christmas lights were switched on on November 22nd, the last vestiges of autumn, fading into beautiful bursts of resilience that encourage us to keep fighting despite all adversity, combined with that joyful illumination—where millions of bulbs obscure the clear starlight but inspire contemplation—offer endearing images to locals and visitors alike. Whether shared or not, these images convey a warm message of welcome and magic, a feeling that one longs to share, especially in these uncertain times, when we must set aside bitterness and embrace each day as a law of life to be lived to the fullest: Carpe Diem.
Es en esta época del año, cuando el otoño está pasando el equinoccio de su propio calvario y las puertas solsticiales están a punto de abrirse para darle la bienvenida a ese general inflexible al que nadie ha podido derrotar, el invierno, cuando Madrid se ilumina de una manera muy especial y a mi memoria llegan ecos de antiguas fantasías cinematográficas que hicieron historia.
De la misma manera que la maldición romántica que servía de argumento a una extraordinaria película de Richard Donner, ‘Lady Halcón’, donde sus protagonistas contaban apenas con unas décimas de segundo para verse las caras al alba, el otoño y el invierno, aunque disponen de algo más de tiempo, hacen, de Madrid, un escenario de película, que, desde luego, merece ser vivido y sobre todo disfrutado.
Desde el encendido de las luces de Navidad, acaecido el pasado día 22 de noviembre, los rastros del otoño, diluyéndose en hermosos estertores de resiliencia que animan a continuar luchando pese a todas las adversidades, unidas a ese alegre encendido, donde millones de bombillas impiden ver la luz nítida de las estrellas pero animan a la contemplación, ofrecen, tanto a propios como a extraños, imágenes entrañables, que, compartiéndose o no, al menos trasladan un grato mensaje de bienvenida y de magia, donde apetece compartir, sobre todo, en tiempos de incertidumbre, donde dejar las amarguras a un lado y pensar en el día a día como en una ley de vida que hemos de aprovechar al máximo: Carpe Diem.
