This old road was once used for logging many years ago to clear cut parts of the forest near by, though it has been over a decade and large ruts have formed. This has made the road mostly impassible by vehicle. We decided to restore it so we can once again take vehicles down this road. This required us to get a delivery of large sized gravel rocks, and then we brought the skid steer over to move it around into the ditches and ruts that have formed. This is caused by years of rainfall and erosion.
The Kabota SVL 65-2 is a great skidsteer and was very useful for this task of moving rocks into the ditches and ruts that have formed.
One part of the road is accessible but the other side is not. So we will move these large rocks back behind the road and in the front until we can get all the way through.
These ruts are around a foot deep, and only getting worse with every rain. That is how they formed in the first place. So we use large rocks to fill them in, and then will follow up with a top dressing of smaller gravel.
A trucking company went to a local limestone quarry and picked me up a truckload of it. They dumped it as far as possible on the road as was safe. Then we use the heavy machinery to move it.
These are not your normal sized driveway gravel, these large rocks are meant to fill in voids.
It was fun watching my foreman scoop them up and move them into the ditches. Really glad we did not need to do this by hand.
He goes back and forth on the good road and moved rocks until the road was completely passable.
All and all this took us about two hours to do, and once we add some fresh gravel to the top this road should last a very long time.
Collecting and pouring in the rocks has this really nice sound to it.. Hard to explain but it was fun to watch and listen him scooping them all up.
Each bucket load would fill in large areas of the ruts.
While he worked on the road, I collected firewood. Walking through the forest I looked for dead trees, or logs laying on the ground.
Found many small piles, and over the two hours I collected much of it.
I really love my pickup truck, it has been a great tool to have out here.
Loading up the truck with lots of firewood for the wood furnace.
Just about all full and time to return to the homestead. We will use chainsaws and saw zalls to cut up all the wood and store it, or possibly use it right away. Since its all dry wood its good to go.
The rutted out road is finally filled in, and just about complete. Will have the trucking company bring another load of smaller gravel to fill in and cover everything else.
Step by step, we get this homestead all fixed up. Some things are lower priority than others, like this road we have been talking about fixing since we first saw it. But now we are getting to those repairs and its another thing done on the farm.
@solominer that larger stone is called riprap. What you want for the creation of the roadbed is either A-B crusher run or B-C crusher run. Anything else will just sink and will need constant maintenance.
Oh cool. I have heard of that term.. I think they call it by a number here.. like the smaller the number the bigger the rock.
Usually I get number 57 gravel for the top layer.
That is good to know about he numbers. The thing that makes crusher run so good for a roadbed is that it has a lot of concrete dust in it that bonds everything together. It is sometimes called 'road bond' gravel. Then over the top of the 'road bond' layer the smaller gravel (like the 57 you mention or what is called pea gravel) gets applied. It makes for a really nice road.

How great it is to have recovered this old road, your maquiraria and your papataz have done a great job restoring the road
It is very good to have the materials and machinery to move and cover the largest potholes.
Great job, I appreciate you sharing this update, have a wonderful dayHow are you dear friend @solominer good afternoon
Hey there, doing good. Ah I am not sure what a papataz is but thanks.
It sure is nice having good machinery.. You take care too.
Sorry. I meant, your foreman and your machinery have done a great job.
happy day
ah gotcha thanks man
Wow, those were some pretty large ruts. It's good that you have the people and the tools to get stuff like that done. I have a friend who has many of the same equipment. He has about 100 acres of property that he builds roads and stuff through.
Yeah they were pretty big, glad they all filled in nicely.
So true having help is great. Yeah sounds like he would need that for 100 acres.. very cool.
The old forest road. You have decided to reactivate. It really looks vibrant and awesome for your city. If this road is operational, people's transportation system and all necessary activities will be faster. I always look upon this great decision as a body of respect and love. It is one of the ways to improve people's communication system. Your contribution to unity and development is immense. Thank you so much for showing this love to everyone from your calmness and embrace of the heart. The creator is always great, the greatest creation of that great creation is man. A person who benefits people is always great. I respect and love you for this great kindness. May God always bless you with all abilities. I pray to my Lord for ever success in this great cause of yours. Good work and enthusiasm will take you to the top one day in this wonderful project.
best regards @mdakash62
Ah glad to show it off, its a nice road to glad I can now drive on it again.. thanks a lot for the comment.
you are always most welcome my god bless you with my heart. it's very amazing work. my pleasure
The Kabota SVL 65-2 looks a nice piece of kit. My dad wishes we had a bucket on the front of our mini tractor.
Sure is, I love that machine.
We use the bucket all the time, the mostly used attachment for the skidsteer for sure.
We didn't buy a mini tractor with bucket on the front as they were alot more money. Now we understand why. Still I am very happy with our tractor its been a good buy and we use it all the time to grade our lane. We dont have ruts that big fortunatley !
Thats some work
Sure is
Super cool looks like a beautiful piece of land!!!
thank you, I love it too.
That's a nice improvement. It'll make it easier to collect wood for sure
Yep, those ruts were bad.. will surely make it easier to move.
Wow you are doing and amazing job and this cost to lot of money. Weldone boss. I appreciate your efforts
Thanks, the load of rocks was around $300 delivered.. of course the skidsteer was very expensive but materials were the cheap part.
Putting in the work and making it happen each day! Good job it's really coming together.
Yep, feels good man.. thanks
Wow, you have a large property! It take time. And patience. And resources!!!
!PIZZA Well done, @solominer. Slow and steady!
hehe thanks, yeah it is large.
It surely will take time, just doing things step by step slowly but surely :-)

So, that's why you disappeared from Hive for 2 weeks! I can imagine how big work is to "rebuild" the road, but luckily you had a (small but) heavy machinery to help you out... That 2-hour work would take a couple of days of manual work, for sure!
The forest looks cool and you had a pleasant weather for work!
Hah nah, this project was only one day of work between moving the wood and doing the road. All I have been doing for the last two weeks is gathering firewood. My farm foreman's wife just gave birth so I have been mostly running this farm by myself for the last few weeks. Since I have wrote about gathering firewood probably a half dozen times I decided just to wait until I had something new to talk about.
Yeah that road work would have been rough without my machinery that is for sure. Very thankful to have it. Indeed loving this weather.. its a bit chilly but when busy moving its nice and warm.
Big toys for big boys! Can't really say anything smarter than that as my single experience with trucks is by playing simulators, lol xD
Hah yeah man, I wish I had one of these sooner in my life. Though I did not have the space for such machinery where I lived previously so glad to have it now with more space.
Some of those games can be pretty realistic, maybe one day you can drive one knowing what you know from the game :-P
Ha, that would be quite a thing!
Moving the gravel by a shovel and wheelbarrow would be a decent workout haha :D Looks good though! Your homestead is really coming together nicely :)
@tipu curate
Upvoted 👌 (Mana: 30/60) Liquid rewards.
Hah yeah I would be super buff if I did all that by hand.. haha glad to have the machine.
thanks man
It a lot of work to restore this road and I think you were not active much in the last week because of this.. right ?
Nah this was only one day or work, I have been really busy collecting firewood covering for my foreman while hes raising a new born with is wife. Soon he will be back to helping me more and then I should get back to more regular posting with new content and not just firewood collection blogs.
This is a very kind hearted service to humanity. People usually offer such service in my country rather they'll live and also drive through the road together with the masses. I wish I'll be in such a country where humans value each other. I believe the road will now be accessible added to the other road that was already accessible.
It is nice having this road be accessible now. Trying to move big machinery through was rough but now it should be a smooth process.. thanks a lot for the comment.
Where have you been? I hope you are good?
It's great to see that you're making progress on your homestead. I'm glad to hear that the Kabota SVL 65-2 skid steer was useful in moving those large rocks into the ditches and ruts.
It sounds like a lot of hard work, but I'm sure it was worth it to have a passable road again.
I couldn't help but laugh at your comment about being glad you didn't have to do it by hand. I can only imagine how long that would have taken.
And collecting firewood while the work was being done? That's some serious multitasking.
Welcome back, I hope we will see your updates more often.
Yep I am doing good.
So true, having a good road again will be quite nice.
Hah yep got it all going on at once.
Thanks, will do.
