Today I'm thinking I'm not sure how much longer I want to keep doing this. A lot of the time lately it feels like I'm just doing stuff to tick off another day of The 100 Day Project.
If I'm going to stop then tomorrow might be a good day for my swan song as it will be exactly half way through.
Today, Day 49, it's yet more wrapping paper and gift tag for another birthday present and some more paint on one of the ex life drawing papers that I'm curious to see if I can rescue from purgatory. 😂
Layer 1 - is just a random use of paints, mostly from when I had some left over after using them elsewhere. At this point it just looks like a God awful mess to me.
Layer 2 - I decide to make some areas of colour more defined in an attempt to make the whole thing less busy.
Layer 3 - I decide to knock back some of the colour to help the painting feel more integrated,so I applied a layer of gesso.
Why did you do that?
Make up your mind Gillian. One minute you're making it more defined. One minute you're knocking the colour back.
Layer 4 - I collaged a load of random hand-painted/printed papers onto the painting.
I'm not sure where to take it from here. I might get the iron out and flatten it a bit. I might outline some elements in black. I might just keep going with layers.
Who knows? That's me done for the day anyway. I ended up quite enjoying it after all. 😁

Mm, different things to think about today:
One of my frustrations with the Travelling Books is the limited time to do something. I thought it would be an advantage to have a monthly prompt, but it turns out that I can't get into the flow, I'm constantly rushing, conscious of a time limit. Some of the prompts don't appeal, others I want to get deep within but there isn't the time to explore them. With knitting, although I am sure it is true with every creative practice, there has to be so many experiements, will this work, how will this turn out, and knitting takes time.
On the other hand, they say that inspiration turns up when you keep practising, when you turn up every day.
So I don't know.
I guess we will both find our way 🙂
One the biggest challenges for me is "what's the point?". I think I said back in the beginning I just wanted to show up and see what got created. However, mostly what gets created is just more of the same and it's starting to feel a bit dull.
Some days were really fun when something unexpected turned up but mostly it's a bit same old same old. But maybe there's a lesson in that. As a reflectino of life that's pretty much how it works. Some days the unexpected happens and I feel energised and my curiosity is piqued. But mostly it's fairly predicatable and familiar.
Maybe peace lies in seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary. That's not something that can just be conjured up though.
At least I don't have the challenge of time like you do with your knitting. I can just whack something out, if I so desire, and be done.
That's how it goes, isn't it? Each version asking for the next direction.
Of course you should do as you please, but getting halfway through I would think would encourage you to continue. Most of what you have done and shared has been things you were going to work on at some point anyway. Maybe recording daily could have made you work on some things more steady?... or not. Anyway, I like seeing what you come up with day to day, but then, I am only reading, commenting and voting and not having to figure out what to do.
I tested out some of my new stencils last night while watching TV and have not started the next practice project, but I expect to work on that today, as soon as I figure out how I want to start! 😄 The table is neat and waiting for me to come play.
I think recording daily probably led me to creating more wrapping paper than I normally would and also completing the cluster book so there is that. 😁
I hope your table is now messy and you're having fun playing on your next project. Or maybe you're just having a nice evening relaxing. I look forward to finding out which later.
I have been playing around my art table, but since I did not have an idea of how I wanted to start the next project, I have been organizing my paints and a few other things that have needed to be done a very long time, which in itself is satisfying. I figure something will come to mind as I spend time at the art table and I will start something before this day ends.
That's what I think at this moment at least. 😄
A bit of sorting out is always very gratifying. I'm sure something will come to you. Or you could maybe just do what a lot of them do on youtube and scribble on the paper and then you're off. 😂
When I first decided to get into this 6 or so weeks ago... 4 weeks? I'm not sure, but when I did, I brought out lots of plastic containers that had all sorts of doodads in them, thinking I might incorporate some "things" in what I was making and not sure what all I had. I AM going to do that eventually, but not today, however, all those containers have been stacked in my living room and although I already knew I wasn't ready for any of that yet, I also thought it was no sense in putting them back on the closet shelves until I went through them all again, threw out what I could and re-organized them so when I am ready, I can just go to the closet and grab a box that I know will have what I am looking for. Now I am working on those too. I want them off my Great Aunt's dresser ! I don't think it will take me too long now to finish..... famous last words, right ?
That is what will happen after a while, if I have not come up with a "start", I will just grab something and do something to it and ....hopefully.... off I will go !
Ha, ha, ha. Welcome to my world. So much stuff lying around waiting to be used. 😁
That's the way! 💪
