Now a days people are told to eat more often, smallet meals to reduce any insulin spike. And although that sounds great, the fact is, food (especially carbohydrates) triggers insulin production.

Eating all the time means there is insulin in your blood all the time. This makes you less sensitive to insulin, hence your body needs more insulin to carry out its function. Referred to as Insulin Resistance. The opposite is insulin sensitivity.

Intermittent fasting increases insulin sensitivity

Why is insulin resistance bad?

Insulin Resistant is essentially a pre-diabetic state, and being in this condition increases your chance to get almost any other disease and negatively affects your wellbeing. Often, people with a gut have some type of fatty liver, something that is strongly linked with insulin resistance.

Presense of insulin prevents fat burning and the release of many beneficial hormones such as growth hormone and testosterone. Growth hormone when naturally produced has shown to show benefit with better health and slower aging as well as better body composition.

Being in a south Asian family, there is a greater emphasis on starchy carbohydrates, which increases insulin more than protein and way more than fats. It is hard to reduce carbohydrates as much as I wanted to, however I'm doing better than before.

Intermittent fasting feels great on the body.

Initially it might not feel great for some. It might take some time to ease into it. Intermittent fasting makes my divestive system a break from digesting. My body feels lighter and less bloated and fatigued. This might be due to the benefits that intermittent fasting has to offer.

You don't need to constantly think about preparing food, and then spend a lot of time preparing it. Then there is the time that you would spend to eat that food as well.

Normally, I don't eat in the morning before and don't feel bad at all. So I don't have to worry about making and eating food before leaving work. This means more time to sleep lol.

Intermittent fasting saves me more time by eating less number of meals and preparing for less meals.

Let me know how was your experience with intermittent fasting.
