The Dynamic Energies of the Body - Pitta Vata and Kapha and Intermittent Fasting practices

in #health5 years ago

Fasting has always been one of the best methods for body cleansing, weight loss and many other health benefits. Intermittent fasting is a rage in these times and they also give very good results to the body. But at the same time one should be aware of the Fasting window and be cautious about the eating plan as per their body type. It is not that the one rule applies for everyone. Every body composition is different and hence there is no one practice for all.

Let's understand a little on the different types of body energies which are Vata, Pitta and Kapha, what type of fasting practice should be followed and why.

The five elemental forces of nature are directly connected with our physical world. The nature of these elemental forces i.e. Air, Fire, Water, Ether and Earth directly impact our mental capabilities.
These elements of nature are connected with the energies of our physical body which is also known as the 3 Doshas Vata, Pitta and Kapha

In Ayurveda each of these Doshas are connected with 2 elements of the nature

  • A Vata body is composed of Ether and Air -Air and Ether is basically all about movement, Quality of Motion, Ability to Move and Expansion
  • A Pitta body is composed of Fire and Water - Fire is all about Desire, Passion, Changes, Transformation and Water is all about beginning of form, too much fluidity.
  • A Kapha body is composed of Water and Earth. - Water hardens into the final element of Earth and grounding.

So as we see each of the Doshas are also interconnected with each other. All of these are present in the individual creation but it is only the proportion and the ratio that varies.

Fasting and Vata Dosha - It is not very much advisable for these people to go without food for very long hours. They are super active people. A Vata Dosha body usually experience health problems such as bloating, constipation, low blood sugar. It is advisable for these people to have a heavy breakfast and light meals at regular intervals and not going hungry for very long hours. These people need regular nourishment to stay in balance. A maximum of 12 hour fasting is advisable for these type of people.

Fasting and Pitta Dosha - These people normally can go upto a 14 to 16 hr fasting window but the problem they face is that these people have a larger appetite so when they break the fast they tend to go overboard with their diet which may not work very well with them. Since Pitta body has fire qualities it is advisable for these people to go on lighter diets as they can have problems with digestion and acidity very quickly.

Fasting and Kapha Dosha - These people normally tend to get into a rut, they also avoid much of physical activity hence it becomes important for them to keep their body active. These people can go upto a fasting window of 18 hrs and they can benefit a lot from it. Also they have a strong sweet tooth and also high blood sugar problems hence it is very much beneficial for them if they have an extended fasting period which will keep their body active.

The recent new terminology is also OMAD - One Meal a Day, that is the 24 hrs fasting window and this should be strictly done only after consultation with your GP and not advisable to start just by yourself. It would be good to get your lab reports before starting this practice.

Fasting in general has a lot of health benefits and it is a practice of the very olden times, but one needs to be careful about their body composition and follow the fasting habits. A Vata and Pitta body should never go for only a water diet, it is not advisable for them at all as it will bring in a complete imbalance in the body energies for them.
Being mindful about the diet is the best diet plan one can follow and one should not follow blindly what is in trend or just because someone else has benefited from it. What may be good for one may not be very well suited to another.
So it becomes all the more important for one to understand their Dosha and accordingly plan their diet.

wow, dear, what an interesting post!
I read much about fasting now, it's really a miracle for our health.
I've not experienced it seriously yet, because I've read that it's easeir to do it after intestines сleansing. But I'm a little bit afraid to do it for now;) have you ever done any body cleansing?
but I experienced 12 hour fasting some times! It wasn't difficult because most time I was sleepng, it was night;) if it's not night, it's much more difficlut because I must cook and feed my son and husband, and when you see food, you wanna eat;) if I am alone, I'll try to keep 24 hour fasting, but for now I am afraid it will be hard. I must be active and strong, because I don't have vaccations from being a mama, fasting needs practice and a wise approach.
But one day I'll obey it!;) it's really magic!

I need to seek for more info maybe because I didn't get how to determine my type of body;(
is Ayurveda popular now in India? do many people follow it?

Here it's rather popular but....here there is so much wrong info, wrong translations and explanations that this topic is full of trash now:( just like with yoga. It's in trend, but only a few people really do understand its sense.

Ayurveda is very popular in India and now it's getting popular in the west too.
I have never done a 24 hr fasting, My maximum fasting time has gone upto 18 hrs and I see it does help, but I see that 18Hr window sometimes give me some problems so now I do not exceed the 15 Hr window.
And in your case I can imagine with your little one around it will be the most challenging thing.
I have done the cleansing couple of times, by following a certain type of a diet and it has really been very helpful, may be I will put up on it some time.
Well in India too it's the same, this is becoming a big time business and so many are getting into it making it so commercial and then you really wonder how much of it is genuine.

Thank you for making this post. Very helpful. I have been intermittent fasting for a few months. it's good to know about the dosha + fasting. I never thought about that. So awesome and exciting:)

Very interesting and good advise "being mindful about the diet is the best diet plan one can follow and one should not follow blindly what is in trend or just because someone else has benefited from it." When I change my diet it is for a purpose and I will tweak things if it is not working for me for as you say we are each unique and what works for one person may not work for another. True, the trends and google are the most harmful things these days. One can so easily fall prey to it. I wish people can make more informed decisions by themselves rather then imitating on others.
