in #health7 years ago

MOBILITY BALL SERIES
PART 3

CALF (GASTROC) RELEASE

Benefits?

  • Reduce calf and ankle tightness
  • Increase knee/ankle range of motion
  • Improve calf strength and ankle stability
  • Decrease tension on the Achilles
  • Help prevent tears during ballistic movements
  • Improve lower extremity balance and performance

Let's begin

Using a ball or double ball, place the ball on floor or yoga block under the calf. Ball should start in the upper calf

Slowly bring your toes up and down 10 times

Keeping foot slightly toes flexed up, roll the leg side to side 10 times

Move the ball to another tight location below, slightly right or slightly left, and REPEAT

Stop above the Achilles!

This is a great exercise before leg day or after

wow its very helpful post because nowadays everyone's having pain

Thanks! I have a lot more coming to help with all areas of the body.

Great post! Do you think these stretches would work without a ball? My calves are so tight and thick that I can barely wear boots :( I don't know if that would fix it but it's worth a try!

A little but you can use a tennis ball or another type of ball to do the exercises as well. The ball really helps pressure point release. Otherwise, there are better calf exercises w/o a ball. Straight leg calf stretch, downward dog pose, soleus muscle stretch, stretching off a step. Also, Foam rollers REALLY help @sunravelme

Thank you! That's a very through answer and I look forward to some nice loose calves!

Have a great day!

Great post! And of interest! My calves are a trouble area due to full shank mountain boots, somewhat heavy pack weights and weak arches- and orthotics can only do but so much...

Ah yes. This would definitely help! I'll have other things in the future as well

Awesome sauce! I'm a PTA. very COOL to meet someone on Steemit who's in our profession!

Awesome! @chelsea88 , yea I noticed health/fitness isn't huge here so, I hope it'll grow in the future!

Where are you based out of?

I live in Maryland and work at a retirement community outside of DC. Where are you practicing?
Yes, i think it has a lot of potential to grow, so Keep doing what you are doing!

Nice! I'm in Los Angeles, working in a sports therapy clinic.

I hope so! This seems like a platform with potential so I'll keep steeming on :)

Awesome I shall follow you. :) have a pleasant day!

Right back at you! :)
