Can I be your close friend? Close friends are truly life’s treasures. Sometimes they know us better than we know ourselves, they are often there to guide and support us, and they don’t withhold the truth from us even though it might hurt. They are always there to share our laughter, our tears and our weirdness.
When you were little, you really weren’t selective when it came to choosing your friends. If you had a next door neighbour, they were automatically your friend. If someone waved at you at the park, KAPOW! You’d made a new friend. It was pretty easy to get along with anyone. You could easily talk about that new cartoon you loved, play tag, go over for sleep overs and so on.
However as you grew older, things changed. It became harder to keep in touch. You’ve become clogged up with responsibilities. You have to work, you might even have a family to cater for and so on. As such as you get older, you have to pick and choose whom you spend your time with, with great care and here’s why:
You must constantly ask yourself these questions: Who am I around? What are they doing for me? What have they got me reading? What have they got me saying? Where do they have me going? What do they have me thinking and most importantly, What do they have me becoming? As much as people refuse to believe it, the company you keep does have an impact and influence on your choices. Don’t let something that doesn’t matter make you lose something that does. Respect yourself enough to walk away from anyone or anything that no longer serves you, grows you or makes you happy.
As I grew older, the realized the importance of privacy, of cultivating your circle and only letting certain people in. You can be open, honest, and real while still understanding not everyone deserves a seat at the table of your life.
If a friend is making you feel small, end the friendship. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been friends for years, or if you don’t have that many friends, or if you have to see them all the time. Nothing is more damaging to your sense of self-worth than surrounding yourself with people who pick away at you. Feeling lonely is better than feeling small.
The key to success is keeping company with people who uplift you, whose presence calls forth your best and makes you want to be a better person. You cannot hang out with negative people and expect to live a positive life. Only surround yourself with people who will lift you higher.
Choose your friends wisely. The company you keep can and will affect the opportunities you see because ultimately you will learn more from your friends than you ever will from books. Funny how your quality of life improves dramatically when you surround yourself with good intelligent kind-hearted positive loving people.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with networking and making new contacts, but making too many actual friends could cause you a lot of unnecessary stress. If you find it hard to say “No” to a lot of things, keeping a lot of friends would cause an imbalance in your life. There would always be a demand for your time as well as your purse. A strong friendship doesn’t need daily conversation, doesn’t always need togetherness, as long as the relationship lives in the heart, true friends will never part. The most beautiful discovery friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart.
Time is a valuable commodity and yours is really important. Focus on quality not quantity, and remember to prioritize important values.
Sometimes it is necessary to limit or eliminate your contact with certain individuals who bring you more misery than peace and do not reflect or allow you to be the person that you truly are or aspire to become. Instead, surround yourself with positive thinkers who are not always creating drama.
Chose people who make your day brighter simply by being around them. Find those whom you admire; you are proud to know; and who support, motivate and encourage you to grow.
You are only going to be as good as the people you surround yourself with so be brave enough to let go of those who keep weighing you down. You are not responsible for what your friends do, but you will be judged by the company you keep.

You are awesome
I don't have many friends, but I know do know a lot of people.
In my field of work, I need to be very sociable which is a terrible thing for me because I am an introvert. I have a few good friends that I know for sure that they will, hopefully, be around me no matter what and a lot of people that are buddies.
I am proud of myself because I actually do remove people from my life that do me no good...no regrets :P
