Namaste @mindhunter - Indonesia and Philipines are actually Far East Asian countries - India and neighboring countries are South East Asian Countries.

As you have rightfully mentioned that a lot of people from all these countries are expats working overseas and remit billions of dollars (you read that right - it's billions with a B) back home via PayPal and other variants - these intermediaries eat up to about 9% in charges and exchange rates.

Bitcoin is present in India but is speculator's game of chance rather than a currency and if Steem is able to create an ecosystem where people can easily exchange their Steem Dollars into local fiat currencies then Steem will become the market leader.

Remember that 2/3rd of humans live in this region and everybody has a cell phone and internet connectivity, though little, is fast catching up.

Just my 2 cents.

We in the West call it SE Asia, but we all have different terms in different parts of the world.

Semantics aside, I'm really disappointed in the Indian contingent on Steemit and would love to see an #Urdu tag for example. I only know one Indian Steemer on here @srini!

Its #Hindi actually!

I am an Indian and found many others as well.

Good @indiadigitizer :) I love India and would love to move there again to promote it! I feel India could really be the TRUE STEEM behind Steemit for remittance payments like you say. But we need a bigger market cap to get a STEEM/USD pair going for local exchanges :)
