Let's learn how to grow hierbabuena and some Friday recipes!

in #farms6 years ago

Since today is Friday and the body knows it LOL decided to bring the Hierbabuena plant for you, it is very common to make an infusion with its leaves to help digestion and soothe pain and inflammation. Also, it is used in the kitchen to flavor salads, soups and meats. In pastry, to give the special touch to some desserts and cocktails, to prepare some drinks like the famous Cuban mojito. In addition, it is very appreciated for its fresh and intense aroma, so you can prepare it with your own aromatizers.

As you can see, there are plenty of reasons to have her at home. Cultivating it is very simple. Here I teach you how to do it:

The ideal is to plant peppermint from cuttings of another plant. A good idea is to put them in a glass, submerging the stem in water so that the roots grow. The ideal time to plant mint is during the first weeks of spring. We can plant the shoots in a garden or in pots. The advantage of doing it in pots is that you can change places when the weather changes. If you plant peppermint in pots, you should choose large ones, since this plant spreads easily. It is important that you place a drainage system in the pot, to prevent water from stagnating. In the nurseries, they can surely help you with this. You must fill the pot with plant substrate (also in the nursery you can recommend some) and place the peppermint cuttings. The pot must be in a place where it is protected from the sun, since the mint does not tolerate direct and constant exposure to sunlight. Peppermint adapts to different climates. It just needs light and a lot of humidity. If you plant it directly on the ground of your garden, try to be in an area where the sun does not fall during the whole day. The ideal is to look for the semi-shade. You should water it constantly, to make sure the soil is moist, but be careful not to get too much water, because the roots could rot. If you also have mint in your garden, you should not plant the mint nearby, because if that happens, one will macherate the other and they will all turn into peppermint plants.

I want to leave you two very tasty recipes based on this plant, nothing better than cooking a tasty meal with the grass sown by your own hands! LOL.

  • Dip avocado, mint and lime: So simple to make this avocado sauce as delicious, ideal for a casual lunch or dinner, to take with pita bread or another flatbread freshly made or freshly roasted.

  • Zucchini with ginger pesto and mint: A different way to eat zucchini, light and nutritious. Be part of thick longitudinal slices of the vegetable cooked on the grill that is seasoned with an aromatic pesto, dried tomatoes and cheese.
