THE BITTER TRUTH SCHOOL NEVER TOLD US!

Yeah that fateful day as I found myself trying to stay cool even in the heat of the winter sun after roasting under same sun in the ridiculous and unsuccessful aptitude test organised by the immigration service, I decided to rest my aching foot and head under the foot of a tree (of the Terminalia spp) just by the side of the road.


And as I sipped the chilled bottled water, all I could think of, as the water travelled through my throat was how seemingly difficult it was for an average independent graduate-youth to survive in the rather harsh economy rulling as at that time.


I haven't thought this for any ample time when I beheld from a distance the sight of Stanley: an old classmate of mine back then in secondary school who also came for the aptitude test, he has not changed much other than the beards that now covered his chin. And I could recognize him instantly.
It was after we exchanged pleasantries that we delved into discussing our past life, our then school, classmates, the country, the economy and how difficult it was to secure a lucrative job after all the stressful years in the University.
After the day's episode, and while I sat in the silence of my room regurgitating all of my life experiences since I became conscious of my existence, I arrived at the following conclusion:

•It's quiet unfortunate that school never thought us how difficult it was to survive in the society after school life.... I could still remember the daily sermon of some of our good teachers then: study ur books, graduate with good grades and the sky is your limit (emphasis was merely on the certificate)..... We were never told that good grades may aswell not necessarily be a precursor to successful life nor be a guarantee for securing good job. •School obviously trained us more to be employee rather than been employers of labour.... We were braiwashed into believing that we attend school, obtain training or rather certificates and wait to be employed by the government or one big organization .... This has led so many frustrated after graduation and discovering the bitter truth very late.

•School trained us to be servants rather than been independent, and that's why they teach us on how to obey rules and regulations set by the goverment or private agencies.
At this point, my reflection was abrupted by the stimulus of the contraction of my stomach, then I realized I was hungry and I ve not really eaten food for the past 12hours. And gazing through my window I discovered that it was dark already and the moon had already brought forth her smiling face.
It was then I realized. Oh! There is a school I must still go and how I wish I was already in that school, this time around, not like the former that I went but one that will unteach me all that I was taught and build me to being a completely independent entity in a better environment..
And how I wish the younger generation will know this truth on time....
NOTE: i'm not by this post implying that hardwork is not important, I am only saying that hardwork alone will never guarantee you your dream life. Only hardwork in the right direction will do... But who is to give us the direction?? School ofcourse... But same school has failed!
