As a Nigerian student, I would say there are a lot of flaws and wrong activities going on today in our educational system. It was supposed to enlighten you, encourage you, modify you prep you, remodel you, assist you to develop your full potential. Education is the key they say, without it you go nowhere, you'll be nothing.....
Common sayings. Now let's look closely at what was supposed to make leaders. Here in Nigeria our lack of basic understanding and the absent mindedness of our leaders have taken a huge toll on our educational system.
We run a system so biased, Political interests over powering our main aim. The educational sector is one area that suffers gravely in our beloved country.
Lack of proper infrastructures for learning has had students practically learning courses abstractly. The importance of practicals have been so clearly underestimated. For those students in the medical field, practicing what is taught is basically the key to understanding.
most times I write tests based on the ideas of the experiments I carried out.
Instruments in the lab are insufficient when compared to the number of students being taught. There is no proper supervision considering the large crowd.
The classroom activities being more and more time consuming. Students are being taught about nine courses in a semester and they are being taught from the period of eight am to four pm leaving them very little time to rest and study. The idea being that all students should read at night. After reading all through the night we are still expected to attend classes the next day for eight hours and continue the cycle till the session is over.
Currently, the issue of the non academic staffs strike that has been ongoing for almost four months now has basically crippled most domestic activities in school.
Hostels are not being cleaned, there is no water supply for the students, The lack of light has students moving out during the day in search of more conducive environments and yet amidst all these the onset of examinations.
Imagine writing exams in practical courses that we have never been to the lab for and then taking the practical class after the exams.
The school's health sector basically do not attend to students even during emergency cases. The security units have only decide to work out of goodwill. Classrooms are not being swept. Inhabitants of the hostels are left with no choice than to excrete outside, due to the lack of water.
The entire system is a total mess !!!!!!
The joys of being a student have been constantly and gradually impinged upon to a point where most youths begin to develop lackadaisical attitudes. The system is less encouraging by the day.
