Launching The Medicinal Cooking Collective Challenge: Diets For Ailments & Disease - Week 1 Diabetes

in #ecotrain6 years ago (edited)

Today we are overwhelmed with dietary options and fads, and it is very hard to choose what will work for us. The media can't seem to make up their minds as to what is healthy and what is not. It has gotten to the point that I have no respect for the kind of news that the media puts out, because most of these stories are sponsored by companies trying to either promote their own products or work against their competition. One day we read that coffee, chocolate, coconut oil, wine etc.. are very good for us in moderate doses, and then the next day we read the opposite and that actually they are really bad for us! How are we to know the truth? The answer is that thanks to Steemit and the amazing community we have here, we are going to explore diets that we know to help diseases and ailments to heal. When you try certain diets you will know through experience if they help or hinder your condition, and with a bit of experimenting you can discover what works for you and what does not!

A Modern Epidemic!

There are several serious diseases that are becoming so common that it is shocking! Diabetes, Heart Conditions, Obesity, and Cancer are just four leading diseases that are killing millions of people every year all over the world. Isn't it interesting how modern science still cannot tackle any of these conditions in any meaningful way. Why cant modern medicine reduce the prevalence of diabetes? Why can't modern science control heart disease and cancer patients in so many cases?

The answer is simple really... Modern science is not equipped or even focused on treatments that cannot be sold or profited from. Let it be said very clearly and squarely that IF doctors made money from prescribing a nutritionist, or a proper dietary plan, or from natural herbs and remedies, they would be prescribing them like they are going out of fashion! Your average doctor knows very very little about nutrition or the effect of our emotions on our health.

The average doctor has a short list of options available to them to help you, and nearly always, they pay no attention to prevention but only masking symptoms or providing short term relief. The average doctor cannot help you to stay healthy, they can only, occasionally, help you when you are seriously ill .. which according to the Ayurvedic system is too late! Prevention is way better than cure, and yet doctors do nothing in this area.

Doctors could be sending ALL their patients leaflets and information targeted to their medical history.. With dietary information, videos, links, and all kinds of inspiring and educational material. Our medicine system should not be so firmly tied to the corporate system which seeks to make profit, above health itself, which is a total conflict of interest. It shows today where the most wealthy populations are in the worst health ... albeit for the longest amount of time. How many people suffer back pain every day of their lives because no one has shown them how to stretch or what pressure points to hold. How many people eat totally the wrong diet for their body type and live a life tormented by allergies to foods and pollen? They are stuck on antihistamines that don't cure the problem, and have to pay for it whilst harming their kidneys with toxins!

So this Medicinal Cooking Collective series will be focused on us sharing diets that can help to aleve certain conditions. Each week we will look at one disease or ailment such as Cancer, and write about what we know from a holistic and medicinal perspective. At the end of each week my tie up post will bring all our posts together so we can all the different diets and knowledge that we have on each disease or ailment. It will be VERy interesting to see what commonalities and differences we have between us. I’m sure I will learn a lot going through this process!

If you would like to recommend a disease or ailment for one of the Medicinal Cooking Collective Challenges please do let me know in the comments. I'm guessing we all know the main ones, but id be interested to hear what ailments you would like to see in this challenge that I may not think of!

Week 1: Diabetes

More than 100 million U.S. adults are now living with diabetes or pre diabetes, According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as of 2015, 30.3 million Americans – 9.4 percent of the U.S.population –have diabetes. “The WHO estimates that diabetes will become the seventh major cause of death around the world by 2030! This is a disease effecting young people en-masse in the most unlikely places in the world. Diabetes is reaching epidemic levels not only in the USA and some parts of Europe, but also in places like the UAE, where young people have fully embraced the western diet and lifestyle. Although the incidence of diabetes is very different around the world, the problem is getting worse wherever it is and as yet not much is being done about it!

Schools in many countries like the UK and USA are still feeding children junk food and priming them with high sugar, high carb, diabetic enducing diets! Schools even profit from installing coca cola and soft drink vending machines! Things are out of control, and the biggest thing missing is education and information. How ironic and quite paradoxical that schools, the embodiment of education, don't even bother to teach or offer their students anything approaching a healthy diet. Some countries are better than others, and I only wish I had been a child in Japan, eating what they have every day for lunch! When i was a kid I ate chips every day, and maybe a reconstituted burger with it. No one was there, or cared, to inform or advise the kids how to eat. The dinner ladies who let us choose our meals could have encouraged us to take a few veggies, but no never! How many kids sat eating a plate of chips with sweet ketchup and a piece of super sweet cake on the side i can't tell you! Oh and of course a glass of very sweet concentrate orange juice.

A Typical Japanese School Lunch!

A British School Lunch

A Scottish School Lunch

An American School Lunch

A Brazil School Lunch

Since diabetes is SUCH a common problem with very little agreement or clarity on the causes (some of us know!) I would like to lead with it as the first Disease for this collective challenge. Diabetes is a life changing and life threatening disease that you can be born with or develop at any time of your life. There are many holistic practitioners who are able to reverse diabetes in their patients and get them off medication, and some doctors are starting now to take note of this.

Posting Guidelines

Your post should be focused more on the general diet that is needed to help improve or cure diabetes. You can write or speak about the types of foods that should be eaten, and what foods should be avoided. Rather than posting a recipe, I would like us to write a one week meal plan that would form the basis for anyone with this ailment to try out. You can of course add photos of the dishes you propose, and if you have posted a recipe you can surely link it all in your post.

You don't have to write a one week detailed plan, and can just share the diet in terms of the foods to be eaten and avoided. I let you all be free to share what you know and in the way you want, so please do feel free to focus on whatever aspects you are drawn to.

You can discuss diabetes as you see it, and even share any stories if you have any about people you know who have this disease. Perhaps they healed themselves, or perhaps they are stuck on insulin injections and suffering? There are different ways to approach a diet for diabetes, and I'm looking forward to reading what you have to share!

I have a feeling there may be a few of us who offer similar ideas or suggestions. That is always great as it is a good confirmation that what we are saying has truth in it, and is worth trying out for yourself if you are diabetic and not feeling like you are being taken care of by the allopathic medicinal corporate health system.

  • The deadline for this first week is Sunday 9th September.

  • Please use the #ecotrain tag in your post. You can also tag #naturalmedicine as it is so relevant.

  • Please resteem this post if you want to help spread awareness to others who may be suffering and just don’t know the truths and options out there.

  • Please do comment on this post to let me know if you will join us for this Medicinal Cooking Collective Diets For Ailments & Disease.

  • Please post before Monday 10th September

Let us help to share the truths about Diabetes and show others that there is something you can do to totally heal from this terrible disease. You can be sure that through the magic of Steemit and Google that others will find this in the years to come, and who knows how many lives we can change and even save from our efforts here on Steemit.

Great idea. Looking forward to reading this information.

That is so thoughtful @eco-alex. I like that you want these writings (our posts) to be found by the many who could be help by their words of truth and experience! You really have a great big heart.

If I can find the time, I will write a post. It may be about my father's diet, but mostly I think it will be about his journey dealing with diabetes since he turned 30 (about 35 years ago). Back then the technology was a bit different but not much has changed for prevention!

He's had to deal with the type of diabetes where he lktterally has to do the work of his pancreas... idifferent insulin shots everyday and blood sugar tests!!! He is full of holes (tiny little pin prick holes)

thank you ! yes i hope you can write about your fathers journey with diabetes.. im sure it could be Very helpful to So many people.. your poor dad! ;-(

I found the time to write it!!! Thanks @eco-alex for the motivation there!

I hope some people will find inspiration to eat healthier... coincidently, today someone asked my mum to help them find a diet for their diabetes.

FABULOUS initiative and we will support posts under these tags absolutely!

ahhhh, Happy to hear!!!!

Hey very useful information! Thanks for sharing.

By the way, did you know the benefits of the 'Paleo Diet'?

In Fact, Paleo Is Not Really a "Diet" At All!

It’s really a return to the type of eating your body naturally craves and was designed for. And that’s why it works. It’s based on how we humans evolved for literally millions of years.

As I'm sure you've heard, countless individuals around the world have turned to the Paleo Diet and way of living in order to regain their health, energy, vitality and power.

In fact, when you toss all the false nutritional info out there aside and finally get back to your roots, there's really no part of your health and body that DOESN'T get better in some way.

And that's why the Paleo Diet is by far the fastest growing eating trend on planet earth. Because the results speak for themselves.

This information is from the Paleo Recipe's Cook Book and is available here: https://healthylobby.wordpress.com/2018/09/02/medicinal-cooking-the-paleo-diet-secrets-revealed/

Wish u blessings! @oniel

Thanks! Yes i know paleo very well. If u wNt to shed weight its also amazing! My x was paleo!

Wow , what a very great post. Containing many vital facts and information. This line cut my attention a lot "More than 100 million U.S. adults are now living with diabetes or pre diabetes". That statistic is outrageous. You are right. The issue of diabetes is now very rampand and common nowadays and the rate at which people are dieing of it is also very much alarming and should be taken care of. Thanks for sharing this great post

thank you ! glad you noticed that and appreciate how ridiculous that figure is! TIme TO Do something!

Diabetes, eh? Nice beginning. :) Gauntlet picked up and challenge accepted. Resteemed. :)

well, THANK you for inspiring me to do this one!! Xx <3

Dibetics is one of the biggest problems in the present. It is basically more of a lazy person. You have said that diabetics can be cured. Agree with your post. It is very good to read your post. It is very useful for all of us. Thank you so much for sharing a post in us

glad u agree.. yes i know one doctor who has got dozens of people off insulin with diet along! Shes amazing.. you'll read about her in my post! ;-)

I disagree that diabetics are lazy people; while that label may fit some, there are many diabetics who are anything but lazy, do watch their diet, and wind up with major health impacts anyway.

But yes, for adult-onset Type 2 diabetes, it can often be avoided or cured strictly with the proper diet.

Awesome post and great contest @eco-alex. I’ve often wanted to ask fellow steemians their take on certain holistic healing processes but felt too shy. I’ve been trying to heal myself through diet for a year now and I know there are people who’ve been doing this (with success) far longer than I have. This is a great way to bring all of us together, thank you!

I nominate thyroid issues, such as Graves’ disease, for the topic of a post. Things like Candida proliferation are interesting too. Can’t wait to see what the community has to say.

thank you! we are here to help each other.. so please do feel free to ask ANYTHING!.. thanks for your nomination.. good one too!

You bet! Thank you for the warm welcome- this is going to be really good :)

This is a very important issue Alex and I am glad that bring it to our attention.

Although, I don't have any experience with diabetes myself, I'll do my best to put something together. I know of few excellent vegan doctors who already helped thousands of people with diabetes, beside other diseases, by prescribing whole food plant based diet. So I will gather some information about that.

Awesome! Me toO exactly the same! I know a diabetes reversal vegan doctor who gets people off inulin as a matter of course! Will be so good to spread this knowledge, happy your taking part!

Fantastic Alex, I am glad we are on the same page and I do my best to gather all the info.

'm not a culinary specialist. Be that as it may, I'm energetic about sustenance - its custom, cooking it, and sharing it. ... sustenance is to be delighted in... I think sustenance is, really, exceptionally excellent in itself.

Most welcome very nice postflower-3140492__480.jpg

Wonderful topic and I hope to pick something up from here. My nephew has TS and has a very strict diet to stop his fits and other things. My bro and his wife are finding things to cook and always out for tasty ideas. I'll keep my eyes peeled for more :)

This is such a wonderful initiative, I look forward to reading all of the posts that come out. Re-steemed! ♥
