When I first discovered the show and the premise about uploading ones «self» and/or consciousness, I figured the show would have me philosophizing about a number of questions regarding what it means to be alive. I had no idea how much of a ride I was in for, as the show did not disappoint in regards of shocking moments and revelations that often shook the whole main character(s)’s world as well as the viewer’s. \s\s
The premise of the show is that in the near future, technological as well as biological scientific advances enables companies to extract all data from a person’s mind to generate a replica of said person’s consciousness as to «continue» the person’s life in an afterlife experience of choice. This is usually provided as an end of life service or as a service to the wealthiest, as the premium afterlife experiences like Lakeview are expensive, whereas the poor need to turn to alternatives like Freeyond which is marketed as a more affordable option where people are able to generate wealth for themselves within the experience and move up in the hierarchical system set in place within the experience. \s\s
This extraction and subsequent processing of data to generate a digital consciousness of a person comes with a number of moral as well as biological and existential questions. The first one that comes to mind is whether or not the person who is about to upload actually dies during the process and then there is just a new digital consciousness generated with the memory of the newly deceased person. In my opinion, this perspective is obvious, but the following question is not. Because if one would download (if it was a procedure without risk and we were guaranteed success) back into a human body or a generated body and be able to feel, sense and all other wonders of being alive as well as retain all memories pre and post upload, would that person not identify themself as the same person as always, even though this person actually died during upload?\s\s
I think that the show presents an excellent perspective in the age-old debate around eternal life, as it shows the potential lengths we as a society could go to in search of prolonging our existence.\s\s
Have any of you seen the series, and if so, what did you think of it? \s\s

That looks like an interesting show, and maybe a bit funny too.
It's now on my list just in case I find myself with nothing to do hehe.
