Diaries of dogtraining - Nico the rottie

in #deegram2 years ago

Hey everyone!
It’s been a while since I’ve posted last, been busy with work and whatnot, but I figured our newest family member and somewhat troublemaker at times: Nico🦮🥰

I’ve always liked animals, but never had a dog of my own. I did once own a cat though, so I know the concept of being responsible for making sure an animal is taken care of in regards to its basic needs.
My girlfriend used to have a dog, but he had to be put down last January due to health issues, and I saw how hard it was on her while also knowing how much joy the dog brought to her life.

After some time had passed since her dog passed, I brought up the idea of adopting one and she was immediately on board.
Nico was the second dog we approached an agency about, but the first one we got so far in the process that we would get to meet him!
The first meet was fantastic, he reacted positively to the both of us even though he didnt know us, and he even got sad when we left.
On the way home we decided that Nico would be our very good boy, so we let the agency know and a couple of weeks later (the 14th of February to be exact), he was finally in the car with my girlfriend on the way to his forever home.
Now that he's been here a while and has gotten adjusted after the move, we've been training him a lot lately with some professional help. We take him once a week to a dogtraining course where he meets other dogs and learns new tricks, and then practice what we've learned the following week until the next day at "school". \s\s

So far it seems to be working, but I'm excited to see what a little more time will do to our progress. He's pulling less on the leash on our walks now, and he's more attentive, which makes training a lot easier as he's not ignoring us during the walks anymore. \s\s

I'll make sure to write an update post with some more pictures and let you know how he's doing, he loves to be admired and understands what's going on when we take pictures.

Hope you all are doing great and have a wonderful weekend!
