THE ANIMALS NEAR US - BIG TURTLES

in #animals8 years ago

Wild or tame, big or small, there's animals out there and we like them all!

Sometimes, we can't even play with the animals that we encounter. Venomous snakes are one good example, but large Snapping Turtles are another.

They fall into the "Look but do not touch" category. Sometimes, even looking is a little dangerous!

At least it may be dangerous looking. LOL!

What can a @little-pepper do when the "nice" turtles seem so far out of reach?

@Papa-pepper has the cure for that too. In fact, sometimes he can go above and beyond!

It is such a big world out there with so many adventures to go on. The @little-peppers enjoy what they can, and big turtles (at least the "nice" ones, are some of the animals near us that they can enjoy "hands on!"

It seems that so many people out there have some pleasant memories of turtles from when they were children. Do you have any?

hey cool, follow you now. I am 15 years old from Austria and I like to find some friends here!!! my dad @elgeko showed me your channel. Greetings from Vienna.

Very cool. Tell your dad, thanks.

It is good to see that papa can spend time with you guys having fun. Sometimes 'homestead fever' sets in and the work takes priority. Give papa a big hug and say thanks for a great day out.

We try not to get carried away with work!

Just last weekend, we were fishing at the Turtle Flambeau Flowage in northern Wisconsin. We had two northern pike on a stringer near shore, patiently waiting for the evening fish fry. A snapping turtle chewed off the lower jaw of one of the pike and freed it from the stringer. It was starting to swim off with it when one of our group saw what was happening. He scared off the snapper and retrieved the pike, who was still in fine shape and able to attend dinner. Later that afternoon I netted a smaller snapper (8 inch shell) and relocated him to the other end of the island. Turtles can be so much fun. Woo hoo!

They sure do like fish on a stringer. I think your mother in law once had a snapper enjoying her stringer of bluegills.

I think I recall that also. Smart critter. So much easier catching fish when they're lip-cuffed.

Those "big snapping turtles" are no joke. They outlive most humans too! You gotta think that any turtle mean enough to live with alligators is probably going to have a bad attitude!

We take them seriously!

If I ever open up a nightclub I'm going to hire snapping turtles as bouncers

That would work!

Beautiful photo~ !!
thank you for sharing

The age of some of these fellas astounds me, turtles are amazing

I opened my door this morning and there was a turtle two feet away!

Very cool! That sounds fun and exciting!
