She is one of the big stars in the world of yoga, an ambassador of ashtanga and author of multiple books. Kino McGregor can't be overlooked in social media, her Instagram and Youtube channel are followed by thousands of people.
When she was 19 she startet with ashtanga yoga as a student of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (Guruji 1915-2009), 10 years later she was certified to teach by the Asthanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore. Today she is the source of inspiration for many people all around the world.
Every year Kino travels several cities in Europe, Asia and America to share the tradition of ashtanga in her very unique, very open way. This time Vienna was blessed by her presence once again: her workshop lasted three days, was hosted by Yogazentrum Pureyoga and took place in the rehearsal stage of the Wiener Volksoper. Around 90 yogis and yoginis came together on friday evening to listen to a talk on Trishtana, a guided meditation and afterwards - of course - asana practice.
Be strong little yogi!
On Saturday morning Kino kicked of the workshop with a talk yogaphilosophie talk and a guided asthantaga asana practice. The afternoon was dedicated to strength in the mental and the physical dimension.
True strength in the journey of yoga begins with a decision to never
give up.
Kino led us with a lot of humor and mindfulness to our mental and physical limits.
Sweat - Laugh - Chant
On the third and unfortunately also last day we enjoyed a traditional sanskrit count class of the first series. This was quite demanding: after two hours of sweating all of us were lying in Savasana. The topic of the afternoon was flexibility. Again we started with a talk, like before with a lot of laughter, amazement and little anctodes of her first teacher Guruji. Kino is a very impressive woman who knows how to pass on her knowledge in a very easy-going and loving way. She has the outstanding gift to motivate and inspire people sustainably. I was fascinated by her courage, her discipline and her ability to connect asana and philosophy with so much clarity. This workshop was a very special event and it gave me a lot of input for my own praxis and teaching.
Recently Kino founded the yoga platform omstars. You can find Kinos classes and of other renowned teachers like Ty Landrum who is the new owner of the yogaworkshop in Boulder, Co. In the section „The traveling Yogi“ you will soon find a video about Kinos time in Vienna. Great for everybody who couldn’t make it to the workshop and would like to catch a glimpse of it.
