The mindset plays a huge role in the way we respond to things as a human being, it is very powerful because with the right mindset you could achieve anything you set your mind to and equally with a wrong mindset a person would be limiting themselves, a lot of things are responsible for ones mindset, these factors are what makes some people's mindset similar and also totally different.
Some of those factors includes;
- Environment
- Family background/cultural values
- Social relationships
- Religious beliefs
I'm going to breakdown these factors and how they affects our mindsets.
ENVIRONMENT
This is a huge factors that influence one's mindset because we often learn from our surroundings consciously or unconsciously and these things sticks to the mind and affects our behavior. For example some communities struggles with gang violence and drug trafficking, this is as a result of their environment which force them to believe violence only answers to violence and it becomes their way of life, now there are two ways to respond to the system which is either to live by it or choosing to abstain from it, people are more likely to go with the flow while others being influenced more by other factors might choose to abstain, knowing there are always different ways to solve a problem.
FAMILY BACKGROUND/CULTURAL VALUES
These are the values and morals passed to us by our parents, guardian and other family relation. This also shapes our mindset because it's a direct instruction on how to react to a certain situation. for example a simple courtesy when you step on someone is demanded but surprisingly not everyone was thought, this shows that each family has their roles in building or limiting a person's mindset
SOCIAL RELATIONSHIPS
This is another powerful influencer to a person's mindset, when we interact with our friends or acquaintances their views can affect our way of thinking either positively or negatively, the saying birds of the same feathers flocks together is as a result of social relationship, now a person listening to a friend's views and choosing to accept it is a phenomenon that often happens, especially when they feel the same way or they've wanted a reason to feel that way.
RELIGIOUS BELIEFS
This is a very interesting influencer to a person's mindset because it's effects are so powerful, there are tons of religions and there beliefs, each person reactions are also affected by those beliefs, for example modern Christianity teaches peace and love, it is then normal to assume a genuine Christian who faced with a decision to result to violence or peace would choose peace, meaning his mind thinks that's the best solution to resolve that issue.
Having explained all these factors it is a no brainier that it all comes down to the decision whether to adhere or abstain, and based on my personal research I've found two major types of mindsets, which are called the fixed mindset and the growth mindset and like everything in the world they both have their advantages and disadvantages, which i won't elaborate on today but I've come to a conclusion that they are both very useful, and it is not impossible to know when to be either of them or even both.
A fixed mindset is focused and confident in their strengths they don't easily change course but are not willing to learn or come out if their comfort zone they are hard to convince while a growth mindset is flexible and open minded.
It is important to know when to be either of them because that is when we would be able to discover our full potential and use it efficiently through decision making.
Note:This post is based on my personal research and views of a mindset and I'm also opened to observations and contributions in the comment section thank you.
