The Steemit Writer’s Dilemma and DBooks’ Solution

Discover the newest tool for writers on Steemit!

Have you fallen in love with some of the amazing stories being written on the Steemit platform? If not you clearly haven’t checked out some of these writers @feekayo @ntowl @unstitched @dreemit @vincentleroy (or his translator @vcelier).

Unbeknownst to many average day Steemit users, Steemit has become a place for many aspiring authors to self-publish their works.

The Writer's Dilemma

If you’re a writer then you already know that getting your work seen on the internet is a headache in itself, after hours of work it just gets buried under all the garbage that is on the internet. Whether you publish your stories on your own blog or you’re trying to get a story published on Amazon, the competition is fierce and the marketing is expensive.

And although having it engrained on the Steem blockchain seems like an ideal way to do it, especially with the reward system in place, Steemit comes with a few headaches of its own.

How many of us have over 20 links linking to previous chapters (but not to the next chapter) under their posts?

dreemitlinks.gif

I can hear all the disgruntled Steemians authors across the internet sighing in unison at this image.

This isn’t the only issue that writers face on Steemit, after hours and hours of writing and finally hitting that submit button, seven days pass and you’ve earned 20 cents. I think a lot of Steemians can relate to this but for authors where this is their life’s work, it’s really soul-crushing.

The worst thing is, the story and fiction tag are spammed with random things that have nothing to do with storytelling! So again, your writing is buried deep within the internet again.

This is the story that your fellow author @feekayo shared with me and it’s quite disheartening.

Well... I once published a novel on Steemit, 22 chapters... And the experience was very bad. First of all, I had to manually provide links to old chapters with each new post, and then, there was no means for me to provide links to new chapters in old posts that had paid out. Also, even though I had quite a number of people who successfully followed the series from the beginning to the end. I believe they were the exception rather than the rule.

So basically. Self-publishing serious work is not part of the use case of Steemit. Especially when you consider the 7-day payout system.

It took me about 3 months to write 22 chapters and I made little above $200 and that was it.

So DBooks tries to extend Steemit's capabilities and fix these obvious gaps that stop Steemit from being a proper publishing platform

The DBooks Solution

So you're probably wondering, what is this DBooks he’s talking about? Well, @timoshey and @feekayo, cousins and fellow authors have created a space on the Steem blockchain just for writers and readers alike.

Their vision is to create opportunities for authors to get noticed, to have their works appreciated, and give them the ability to self-publish their own stories.

DBooks is a self-publishing platform on the Steem blockchain, it allows readers to access their favorite author’s work all in one place. For writers, there’s no more struggling to link to all of your chapters and for readers, you’ll no longer need to surf through all of an author's posts just to find the next chapter of a particular story.

DBooks will also be asking for a small fee from readers in order to give authors the chance to make more than a few cents for their writing. It hasn’t been decided yet whether this will be a one time purchase for each book or a rental or a subscription fee. As for the readers, think of it as donating to your favorite writers’ ramen budget. ;)

And lastly those pesky spammers. DBooks is also in the talks about building a bot that’ll help clean up the Story and Fiction tag. That’s a forewarning for all of you misusing those tags, you’re going to get flagged!

Thank the universe, your religious deity, or whatever you believe or not believe in, because DBooks just made it a lot easier to be an author on Steemit.

How you can help build this project

website@DBooks.org is still in its early stages, however, and needs support for their platform’s development and the development of that bot! If you’d like to learn more about their developments, visit their blog or . They will also be launching a campaign on @hyperfundit.com to fundraise for development very soon. So keep an eye out for it!

They’re currently looking for influencers who’d like to work with them on their campaign to help promote their project while earning 20% of the project's funding in the process.

For all you lovers of the literary arts out there, if you’d like to help promote this amazing new platform for the Steemit writing community get in contact with us here!

What do you think about this new project? Do you have any suggestions for the Dbooks’ founders about DBooks or their bot? Let them know in the comments below!

You highlight a great problem here. A post could be of value years after its publication and steem has no means to reward it.

It could be solved by rewarding the author's account not the post only.

@hyperfundit is one of the promising project here on Steemit. That is why I am seeing the price will triple or more in value in the coming future. Dbooks on the blockchain is really great thing to happen and it will help many authors welcome on board on this blockchain era.

very interesting friend I would also like to inform me more about these new projects

This is just great.. A welcome development. Steemit is continuing to be the best

Yes we love watching the growth of Steemit and the genius people behind all these new applications of the blockchain!

You have no idea how happy this makes me @hyperfundit , i started writing long before i heard about steemit, imagine my joy when i heard about a platform that'd reward me for my writing, i joined steemit January this year, started blogging around February, and honestly, I've been disappointed a lot, i write and pour my heart out into a post only to end with 0.1cents, it can be really discouraging, like you said, they probably got buried under Internet junk.

I usually just write poems and short stories(mostly horror), but a while after i joined steemit, i started writing a book and I've already written about 7 chapters(they ended up with a total of less than 5sbd) and little recognition.

Long story short, you just ignited a spark of hope in me, i hope it all works out

So happy to see so much development on the Steemit Blockchain. Have checked out Dbooks and it looks amazing and very useful for attracting authors to Steemit. These developments are bringing us closer to the common goal of promoting Steemit and helping everyone in the Steemit community.

By the way, we are also developing an app for Steemit called SteemApp. It's a completely free mobile app for posting on Steemit and soon will be able to see your Feed, too.

Thank you for sharing new developments. Always excited to see new projects on Steemit!

Yes me as well. Still learning about it, and taking the time to access all the information with like minded people is the best part.
I look forward to the app. I'll keep an look out.

Well said.. 😊

DBooks will definitely be making the lives of authors on Steemit easier, we hope that they succeed in their search for funding. Let us know if there's anything we can do to help you with your app :)

  • Iris

good stuff guys I just checked it out, looks fairly easy to use, thanks for sharing your content with us!

Iam very much in support of this laudable project. If this project succeeds, my dream as a poet and upcoming motivational writer would have come true.

@sheegay74 That's very exciting to hear! We hope your dreams come true!

Upvoted and followed! You are at the cutting edge! This is the next step for books, from print, to e-books, and now Dbooks! With Steemit curation, et al, it would the most efficient way to reach the books audience and reward the author directly! Two thumbs way up!!

I am interested in this project. I write some poems and also organized a poem competition. But it is so sad that after sitting for days trying to give your audience some good stuffs, you end up being push down the line by other post.

I am fully in.

So many writers on here totally get your pain! You can actually start posting your poems on DBooks now, just visit their website dbooks.org! Keep your eyes peeled for when they launch their funding campaign it'll have some awesome rewards too for your support.

  • Iris

An awesome tool for authors to self-publish and get their work noticed. Love it. 👍

very good article friend, I will read about them, I hope to grow on this platform and someday another person promote my work as you do with those writers, greetings

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the read. Keep posting great content and start talking to people in the Steemit community and you'll find great people are willing to support you as well :)

  • Iris

thanks for sharing this! new to steemit, so this is super handy. can't wait to try it out!

No problem! Welcome to the Steemit community! We're always happy to have new people joining us :) Are you also a writer?

  • Iris

Hi. I'm glad to hear about this project. Many of us are writing, guardian in our computers. In Venezuela it is expensive to publish and in my case since I am in steemit I have been able to write and satisfy my desire for a non-professional writer. Thanks for posting the post.

I'm glad you enjoyed my post about their project. You'll be able to publish your writing on DBooks for free now, I wish you much success in your writing :)

  • Iris

Cool Concept!

Luppers

thank you very much, it was very helpful ;)

I was just commenting on another post about whether or not Steemit will achieve a #1 social media status. I mentioned that I believe it has if you categorize it by it's unique crypto reward earning system. I've also come to find, that as soon as the mold is broken, another startup that mirrors the product appears. UUNIO is one that appears to promise that users can generate original content and get rewards for generation lasting for the duration of the posts existence on the platform. Do you think if the Steemit community request the change to extend the seven day period that resolution could remove the selling point's advantage before the launch of the competitor? Should we write @Steemit and request they extend the upvote reward ability for the duration of the posts existence?

This post has received a 26.51 % upvote from @boomerang.

Great article.. I think your project is very good, i hope you are succes with your project. God Bless you

It's a step in the right direction, I believe. Writers can eventually get to be rewarded for their efforts. I tried posting stories on this platform but seeing the result after a few tries, I decided to halt for a while. I think I can now go back to story-telling, because that's my favourite part of writing, and even better? I'll be doing so on steemit!

YES! That's so awesome that DBooks' existence will make it easier for you to go back to story-telling! I hope to read some of your stories on there soon :D

  • Iris

This is great - as an author I know how easily your work gets lost as soon as it's online. I'll be keeping an eye on this!

The website is already functional with quite a few stories published on there. They will be raising funds soon to build it better with more features. You can check them out here.

  • Iris

WOW.. this is definitely a good info for all the new writers in steemit.. thanks for taking the pain to write and share this info

It was not a pain at all, I really enjoyed interviewing the founders and writing this piece! I love sharing these cool new projects popping up on Steemit with the community! I'm just glad that sharing this info will help the writers on here :)

  • Iris

Whatta great idea @Dbooks! Looking fwd to learning more about this k!ck @$$ Steemit opp. !!

Good work! We have many talented Steemians and I love many stories that I read in the past weeks as well. It is really amazing, mostly when it comes to Sci. Fiction :)

Yes I agree all the great writers out here on Steemit deserves some more recognition! If you'd like you can tag your favorite writers to this post to inform them about this awesome platform. :) I hope by sharing this, more writers will be given the opportunity to let their work shine infront of more eyes!

  • Iris

The post is fantastic love your work on steemit very helpful for other people...

Thank you :) I'm glad that we can be helpful to others in the Steemit community!

  • Iris

This could be a great idea to write something written on steemit.

This post has received a 30.88 % upvote from @booster thanks to: @hyperfundit.supp.

I really support this Dbook, because with its present Dbook all authors can be automatically assisted by the bot system. which will separate live fiction and story tags, to avoid wrong tags in steemit .

This is a great and valuable post .

Maybe an audio book solution as a corollary to DTube?

That sounds like a cool idea! Thanks for your suggestion! :) @timoshey @feekayo check this out

  • Iris

Thanks, Iris for drawing our attention to this. This sounds like a great idea, but not something we're looking at, at the moment.

like the idea hope this get start very quickly. if this thing work this way then it will help steem users.

It's actually already up and running and there are already people posting their stories on DBooks. However, it's still in beta so they'll be looking for funding to make the platform better and with more features!

  • Iris

Thanks for information and your motivation

Can it also be nonfiction books? I have almost finished writing a small e-book that is a collection of short humourous essays on family life. I was going to publish through Amazon. This seems interesting to me.

Yes, it can be any genre of writing! It's a free self-publishing platform, there is even someone interested in publishing magazines on there! You should definitely check them out at DBooks.org.

  • Iris

pantastik

Logic brings about idea to rule, to standout and to be celebrated.

This is very useful for people who want to be more read in this medium, thanks for sharing!

Yes I hope that more authors will be encouraged to write and publish their writing on the blockchain with this new platform making it much easier for them! Thank you for reading!

Kurt Vonnegut's no-bullshit tips are great:

  1. Use the time of a total stranger in such a way that he or she will not feel the time was wasted.

  2. Give the reader at least one character he or she can root for.

  3. Every character should want something, even if it is only a glass of water.

  4. Every sentence must do one of two things — reveal character or advance the action.

  5. Start as close to the end as possible.

Be a Sadist. No matter how sweet and innocent your leading characters, make awful things happen to them-in order that the reader may see what they are made of.

Write to please just one person. If you open a window and make love to the world, so to speak, your story will get pneumonia.

Give your readers as much information as possible as soon as possible. To hell with suspense. Readers should have such complete understanding of what is going on, where and why, that they could finish the story themselves, should cockroaches eat the last few pages.

I am so happy to know about Dbooks methods. Once I had a lots of weekness to write poems. I wrote everyday. One day My mom founded my diary of poems and she told me publish that. Alas probably luck wasn't with mine, I lost the diary. Dbooks congratulations, Hope gonna come soon to Dbooks.

Good stuff to read dear!
i am a lover infact die hard lover
rally liked your blog .

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

  • Iris

Best wishes for the success of dBooks. It's bad enough getting 20 cents for an 800 word article, but that pittance for a book is devastating if a main source of income.

I Upvoted And Followed you. do The same for me and we could help each other Earn.

Great project!!

💕💕💕

This is some thing that may really inspire those who are sitting on the edge.. To write or not to... May be me too in such a stage... Hope it may revelutionize once people will try to explore this fully
.

Obviously, the answer is to always write!! ;)
