Project Details

The eSteem app allows users to use the Steem blockchain based Steemit network to post, comment, curate and vote for other users' content.

The well known Steemit platform is gaining momentum among users, and it provides easy access from mobile devices. I'm sure this will further improve adoption and widen awareness of the platform.

The app already exists in numerous languages, but so far, the danish version was missing quite a few percent to be complete. Some translations looked somewhat machine-translated, too, so a thorough scrutiny of existing translation as well as validation of previous work was sorely needed. That's what this piece of work was essentially all about.

Links related to the translation

I've gathered some usefull links for you, since finding the eSteem website could prove quite difficult, unless you feel like reading a load of articles about how social media platforms affects self-esteem :)

Also, there's links to the translation project on Crowdina as well as my profile on Crowdin

Source Language

The native language is english, but eSteem has already been translated to numerous languages, and more are almost done. Check out the project page in the link above to see, if your language is one of those only needing the final 3% to be complete!

Translated Language

The danish translation was somewhat initiated a year before I started working on the project. However, many translations turned out to be either inaccurate or clumsy attempts to do a word-by-word translation. Therefore, a full review was required besides the actual translation. This caused the workload to be quite a lot bigger than what I initially expected.

Number Of Words

Of the 1419 words in total, 1030 words were translated/updated during the two days I worked on this project. It is a bit difficult to get accurate statistics, since a lot of the previous work wasn't on par with standards of a proper technical translation. I'll leave the statistics here for you to make your own decision on how much work was actually provided. My main goal with this, was to make sure the quality of the danish translation was as high as possible.

Number of words translated on this contribution: 1030
To me, this isn't the most relevant fact about this translation. The possibility to launch a proper high quality app to native danish speakers is by far the most important.

Proofread Words

Since a couple of translations were fine as they were, not everything had to be translated again. I did, however, run through all translations to validate that everything was correct both from a linguistic point of view as well as to ensure all technical meaning was left intact. I therefore re-validated all words, of which 1051 words needed re approval.

Previous translation on the same project

The 2 days spent on this was my first contribution to this project, and it built on top of previous work from at least two other translators. However, the vast majority of preexisting work seemed to have been imported from somewhere else, since a lot of mediocre translations were submitted by the project owner or manager who definitely doesn't speak danish.

Number of words translated on the project before this report (if any): A bit confusing to tell, actually, since 209 translations were uploaded to the project initially before actual translation work started. A couple of translations were then suggested by actual danish people, so my guess is that roughly 400 words were translated to some extend before I started work.

Closing statements
It's always challenging to work on these kind of translations, where a rather good knowledge of the different use cases and internal lingo is required to provide highest possible quality. So before starting work on this, I installed the app and tested things out to get a bit under the skin of it. My first impression was that it's an extremely capable app, that elevates the use of the Steemit platform remarkable when on mobile devices, whereas I don't find the desktop app to provide all that much better user experience than what can be found on the actual Steemit website.

I still think you should give the app a look, and I've taken the liberty to drop you a few links directly to the Google Play Store as well as Apple's App Store here:

That's all for now.
Cheers,
Punqtured
