CAMP CARNIVAL is a program organised to show case the different cultures, tribes and traditions within the country and celebrate the uniqness of one Nigeria. Through songs, dressing and different festivities.
The NYSC carnival is delibratly set up to give power to the cord of unity among corp members as it unites people of different cultures together and gives them the opportunity to learn and appreciate different things from other cultures.
I.e corp members are allowed to join any cultural group to see and learn the different cultures ,even though it is not their own.
NOW THE STORY BEHIND WHAT REALLY HAPPENED DURING OUR CARNIVAL
Yes, as a legit member of the nation youths service corp (NYSC) I also participated in the carnival in the Edo state NYSC orientation camp.
Believe me when i say the event started off very interestingly and fully charged with many cultural displays.
This program is usually done 4 days before camp is closed. The activities are supposed to start by 10am yesterday, but due to late arrival of the invited guests of honours (it's kinda like a habit), the program started in the afternoon around 12noon.
It was the only day we (the corps members)were allowed to wear mofty clothes ,unlike the usual overall white.
Different costumes and attires of different cultures are showcased on that day, which was yesterday ,the diaplays made everywhere so colourful and very unforgettable, because of the beauty.
The activities were done based on platoons. In all camps there are 10 platoons.
Each platoon selects a group of talented people to represent them in the two or more tribes selected by the platoon.
A king and a Queen must be chosen for each tribe , along side with some other corp members who know how to dance different tribe and cultural dances.
The day was fun, different attires accorded to different platoons and everybody looked so radiant and colorful , so I said to myself; " i hadn't been having much fun in the normal camp activities, so i was going to make sure i had all the fun during this carnival".
And yes indeed i had fun to the fullest. We danced round the camp with the queen and king leading us and our masquerade running around and doing his masquerade duties.
We had drummers giving us different cultural songs and dancers who followed the king and Queen.
Other platoons did well too. Some represented the Edo culture while others dressed represented other culture.
After the whole ceremony everyone took pictures and danced off happily to their various hang outs.
The day turned out to be quite right which made it my best day in camp so far.
Hanging out and chilling happened thereafter until I became so worn out i was drunk with sleep.
I want to use this opportunity to recognize the efforts of :
@surpassinggoogle for all his kindness and generosity and for the following initiatives which has helped thousands of steemians express themselves more. ;
Therefore my fellow Steemians, let's support @surpassinggoogle by voting "steemgigs" as witness.
Thank you and GOD bless you
Till next I write I'm @omotara reporting from Edo state NYSC camp Nigeria
