Travel Photo contest week 5 - Landmarks

in #travelphotocontest6 years ago (edited)

photo on the opposite bank of the Seine is my favourite Parisian landmark - the Musée du Louvre. It's overcrowded, possibly even overrated and definitely overpriced but I still make a point of visiting whenever I hop over the channel. Not so long back I entered a panoramic photo of Paris into @axeman's cityscape photography contest. Just visible on the left of the

On a cheeky little half term Eurostar jaunt last October I booked the family into a hotel about 10 minutes from the museum with the intent of shooting the famous pyramid at night.

Mission accomplished :-)

It does need to be said however that even by day the pyramid is no less impressive:

The museum itself inside is a treasure trove of different architectural styles and priceless artefacts. Although I usually prefer the less crowded galleries, you can't visit the Louvre without dropping in on its most famous inhabitant.

There she is - this is as close as I could get. Next time I'll bring a 300mm lens maybe...

I do agree with you it is really impressive at night. When I am there I also am drawn to the glass pyramid and always go for a walk just to say hello. I don't go in anymore as it is crazily priced and have been there and done it.

I think I might have been maybe 7 times? still haven't seen it all...

I think I have been 3 times and if I go back I won't be going in as there is so much to see around the city anyway. I will go for a walk though just to see the pyramid at night all lit up.

I think next time I go I just want to find a really nice place for lunch and relax. Since my kids had never been there we had to fit in a lot of tourist attractions in a single short trip - my fondest memories of Paris though have always been the out-of-the-way places and the long walks.

It is amazing the architectural details and the ability of the workforce to make this type of construction, so fascinating that they become heritage.

Yes - and not only that but it started a trend for other museums to add modern structures to their historic buildings. Look at the British Museum, for example.

you did just fine to go out at night and took these beautiful shots! It is an extremely fascinating subject to photograph and never gets tired of, it is a tireless model !!
Congratulations and thank you for sharing with ushi @davewuk

Thanks, glad you liked it.

The photo series are stunning, even seeing the pictures on smaller screen, immediately visible the quality, like your night pictures, especially that smooth background of night sky, the tone: grey-slight violet+purple make the glass construction even more prominent.

On other hand like your day pictures too, as it is possible to see the great architecture and its details. Wonderful series and really great quality!

Thank you @stef1 🙂

It's a very impressive museum and I also like the glass pyramid. I prefer the night view though as the square is always overcrowded during day. I visited Louvre as well but only did it once as I couldn't enjoy the exposition because of tons of people doing the same :) It was a challenging experience :)

Your photos are sharp and the light is just great! Thank you for sharing and congratulations on your curie vote!

Thank you - my wife thought I was crazy going out of the hotel at midnight but I'm glad it was worth it :-)

Scenery is just great. I would love to visit Paris.
Thank you for this documentation of your trip in pictures.
Peace

Thank you!
