There are a few more things I wanted to cover about my trip to Breathless Resort in Montego Bay: the grounds/pool, the beach, the food, and the activities/vibe.
The Grounds/Pool
The grounds at Breathless are impeccable. Every blade of grass is in the right place and the landscaping is amazing. The pool area is an incredible oasis with amazing poolside bar service (sadly they don't service food poolside - another HUGE negative of this resort). The house music or DJ blasting all day, every day may not be for everyone, but I enjoyed it (at least for the four days I was there... not sure I'd want to hear it much longer than that...). The small pool on the roof of the hotel is also very nice, with stunning views and great sunsets.
The Beach
Well the beach just sucks. It is small, it has a fake feel to it and there is just no Caribbean charm. Additionally there is not beach side service, you have to walk up to the bar/restaurant if you want a drink. There is also a Hard Rock Cafe right next to it, which is a run down dump, with lots of trashy people. I give the beach 1 out of 5 stars, don't go to Breathless if you're looking for a beach vacation...
The Food
At an ultimate all-inclusive resort I expect incredible Caribbean food. Except for one restaurant (Altitude - on the roof) the food also did not live up to expectations. The only breakfast option was a standard American style breakfast buffet, which has good food but felt like I was at brunch in a stateside hotel.
Lunch options were also limited (only two places were open for lunch, one being the beach bar). The lunch food was decent, but again did not meet expectations. And dinner was also lacking and the menu items did not truly satisfy.
The Activities/Vibe
There were no real all-inclusive activities offered at Breathless while I was there. They had poolside lounging and beach lounging (which was all I wanted on this particular trip), and everything else activity-wise was off-resort with a third party and a price tag.
The resort is also billed as a party resort, with the motto being "Welcome to the Party." Being the resort's official grand opening weekend, I expected a lively non-geriatric crowd. Unfortunately, there was no one there... I think they must have forgotten to send out the invitations, as the resort must have only had 20% occupancy and everyone else there must have been over 60 (and boy did they hate the nonstop music...). When approached by one of the staff members in the hallway, he asked 'how's the party,' my reply was 'where is the party?' to which he did not know how to respond.
Overall, I do not recommend that you head to Breathless Montego Bay on your next trip. While I did love the room and the pool area, I thought the resort overall failed to come close to meeting my expectations. I would give this resort 2 1/2 starts out of 5.
Side note: Flying Southwest home out of Montego Bay was a nightmare - don't do it!
