The most colourful island in Italy

in #travel7 years ago

One thing I love about traveling is seeing all the different types of places people live and how different the architecture is. The most colourful place I've ever visited has to be the little island of Burano in the Venetian lagoon of Italy.

Burano is a small beautiful island full of rainbow coloured fisherman houses with a canals running through it.

The legend is that fisherman were the very first ones to paint their houses in bold bright colours so they could easily spot them through fog.

This purple house was my favourite. I love all the foliage and the flowers. Isn't it pretty?

There is a main square with many restaurants and nice patios. Since Burano is an island, it's best known for its seafood. I didn't get a chance to try any food in Burano but the seafood in Venice was deliciously fresh. There are also many shops selling handmade lace as that is also one of Burano's specialities.

Burano is small but there are many beautiful details to explore. It's so picturesque, it's perfect for photos.

Burano is repeatedly named in travel magazines as one of the top 10 most colourful places in the world and I definitely agree. It's one of the most memorable places I've been.

Burano is easily accessible by ferry through Venice and worth the trip. You can also read more about Burano here. I hope you enjoyed my post and thank you for reading! What are some colourful places you've seen or would like to visit?

this is so beautiful... it's so on my list!
:-)

Thank you! I bet you will love it! If you go, you can also visit another island nearby called Murano which is known for glass blowing. It's full of interesting sculptures. Although I think Burano is more beautiful to see.

Wow

Couldn't agree with you more @jellyfishdonut - I always tell people to travel. Isn't there a chinese saying that you learn so much more from travelling than from book. Cheers.

Thanks! I've definitely learned a lot from my travels that I don't think I could have ever learned otherwise. I think it really opens your eyes and mind when you can get a glimpse of different ways of life around the globe.

Lovely!

I also love the purple house, but I love your smile best!! ❤️

I always love seeing 'rainbow' village 😁

Thanks for sharing!!

Thank you!!! :D :D :D

Vivid photos. Thanks for sharing. I will have to look up Burano if I take my wife to Italy (it is on the list...)

Thank you for reading! Glad you liked it! If you do end up going, Murano is another small island around there which is known for glass blowing. Quite interesting to see too since there's a lot of cool glass sculptures.

I love all these different colors!! Must have been fun to visit!

Thank you! It was such a surprise to see in real life. It really is vivid like that!

I bet!! I have been to places like that in Mexico and love it. It is so lively and joyous.

I need to go to Mexico now, lol.

Great shots and story!

What a charming place! To me it looks like a European version of some Caribbean Islands I have been to.

Huhuhu. Italy 💟
