The Biggest Tourist Trap in Prague

in #travel7 years ago

Hello/Nazdar Steemians

him out soon. I'm not here for that part. Today we talk about a specific shop in Prague. As you know Czeck Republic is part of the European Union, however they do not have Euro as their national currency. Instead they use Czeck Crown. Becasue of that we were forced to exchange our money to be able to pay for stuff in Prague. Of cours we just decided to go with the flow and do the exchange in prague somewhere. This Weekend me and @timsaid visited the golden city, Prague. How it was and what we did there, you will find that on his blog so check

The place which catched our attention was called CHECKPOINT, directly at the old town square. Very touristic area, perfect for an exchange shop. But something shocked us! The exchange rate was horrible. This is the current exchange rate from Euro to Czeck Crown :

However their Exchange rate was 1 Euro for 17 Crown , which is just insanely low. After doing some research and asking some local I found out that this place is very popular for this scam there. A well known tourist trap in prague. So Don't fall for it! These guys are thieves!

Here are my tips for a smooth currency exchange in Prague:

  1. Never do an exchange on the street with a random person. These guys are going to mess around with the exchange rate very easily.
  2. Find a legit looking exchange shop like the ones from WESTERN UNION bank and always look at the exchange rate table before going for it. Some shops has better rate than others so try to google the exchange rate and take a nearest rate.
  3. If you do not trust these shops at all for some reason, then go for an ATM. They use your bank's exchange rate so you do not have to bother yourself with it. Always try to choose an ATM which is placed inside a building so the scam possibility gets low as possible.

Alright now that you have succesfully got your Czeck Crowns, enjoy your stay in Prague and don't forget to try some traditional Czeck dishes like Gulash. They are woth trying.
