The name of today's city Ankara comes from Angora (Angora goats = mohair in America).
Angora was a city of the Phrygians.
Angora is also a textile fiber that is extracted from the hair of the Angora rabbit. The Angora rabbit is a long-haired rabbit breed. Because of its sweat-absorbing and heat-retaining properties, the angora fiber is mainly used for bed and underwear, tights and blankets.
Although DIN 60001 and ISO 6938 clearly denature the hair of the Angora rabbit as angora, there is a risk of confusion with mohair, the wool of the Angora goat. The goat gets its name from the old name of the Turkish city of Ankara, as it occurs there. The rabbit is called Angora rabbit because its hair is similar to that of the goat.
Today, Turkey is among the top textile exports in the world and the fibers of angora rabbits and goats find use in high quality designer clothes.
Very informative, keep up the good work :)
