Purchasing Giant Funko Pop Collections!!

in #toys9 months ago

The past couple of weeks have been a tad nutty at Conquest Comics when it comes to our collection purchases. It seems everyone and their mother was off loading their once precious goods, and I was more than happy to oblige in taking them off their hands. The main focus of this piece will be hijacked by Funko Pops, but there’s some other odds and ends as well. Let’s do this!

As always, a little context that I’ll keep short & sweet. As an owner of a comic & toy shop, we see folks almost daily popping in to offload their collectibles for various reasons. It’s one of my favorite aspects of having the shop as it allows us to gain inventory for “pennies on the dollar”.

Unless there is something super juicy and meaty inside, we have rough ranges that we tend to stay within when purchasing these collections. It’s just an easier time for us considering how often folks bring stuff in, to be able to say that we generally pay between X and Y per Pop, or X per longbox of comics, and so on. Once again, this general range is just a tool to help us, but can be quickly thrown out the window if there are some worthy grails inside. Luckily for us, no grails walked into our door this past week so it was pretty standard stuff.

Take this haul for example. This gentleman called me up and described that he had a collection of Pops in the number of around 250. I gave him the pitch over the phone and told him selling online was his best bet to maximize funds, but he needed it gone quickly. I told him the range without grails, and he accepted. So I kinda bought this one sight unseen. These days, we usually pay between $2-$5 bucks a Pop for commons and lower tiered exclusives. We just get them in so often and have a ton already, so it is what it is. There ended up being I believe 267 pieces in which we needed around 75% on our floor. I gave the gent $650 which broke down to $2.43 a piece. A delicious deal for us as I already sold a bunch.

There were also a few Funko Soda pieces and a box of about 20 loose Pops. That and all the doubles that made its way to our overstock in the back room.

Then another one walked in. This dude has sold us stuff on and off for a couple of years now. I think he gets bored and shifts focus. One minute he loves Walking Dead, the next Breaking Bad. Then he’s moving on from Pops to get into a certain figure line, just to dump em all 6 months later to ape back into Pops. It’s strange how often we see this behavior.

Anyway, I’m always welcoming to his collections with open arms. This was a 46 piece Pop collection, with 10 Funko Soda’s, PLUS this groovy Loungefly TMNT bag that contained 6 more Exclusive Soda’s. Oh, and 5 Ultimate TMNT figs that had weapons missing…so those went in the loose figure bins. Him and I have completed countless deals so I just had him name his price which was $250. I didn’t argue as I was bogged down and knew it was solid. If I ignore the loose figures and count the bag as 1 piece (as we will sell it that way), it’s 57 pieces total which breaks down to $4.38 a piece. Solid deal once more.

I’ll follow up tomorrow with another segment breaking down a comic and toy collection…and you guessed it…more Pops. All from this past week!

Thanks for tuning in.

I think you're lying about these purchases. There's no way you can fit any more things in the shop...

😂

It’s pretty stupid at this point, but there’s just some deals we cannot pass up. Especially as there will come a time when we will indeed hit a dry spell regarding collections. But with how things are, I think folks are destined to be hurting financially for a bit…so those days are probably still a ways away. Until then…weeeeee!

I am a tad concerned with the crowd in a few weeks on Free Comic Book Day considering how packed we are.

It looks like you'll never run out of stock on those. I hope they sell well.

I like the look of that Jaws one in the last pic :) They must have a full time team just designing the new figures. Do you have any idea how many different Pops there are?

We already sold the one Jaws one. It sold within a couple of days of putting it out…weirdly to a kid who I would think wouldn’t even know what Jaws was as he was like 8.

Hmmmmm. Well, we have over 7000 different Pops on the floor currently. Probably closer to 7500 at this point, and I believe that’s about HALF of what’s out there. Kinda crazy!
