The mystery in the bread
There lived a poor widow called Abike, she gave birth to a female child called sholape. After the demise of her husband, life turns it thongs on her, although she could still pass as a wife for another man, she made up her mind to give her daughter the best upbringing any mother could.
She did all sort of menial job she found around, Just to meet her ends. In her community widows are not regarded, in fact, she is already betrothed to her brother-in-law which she declined. Because of her decision not to marry the brother-in-law, the entire family neglected her and her young daughter.
Sholape is an intelligent young girl, she did exceedingly well in her academics, this even encouraged her mother to give it her last drop to make sure she lives up to standard. She grew into a beautiful woman, her academic pursuit was still paramount to her, she entered for a scholarship programme and was granted admission into a renown institution in a foreign country.
Abike joy was overflowing, she was happy her struggle has paid off, her daughter is going to recompense her of all her pain and agony she went through. She helps her get the necessary things she needed to make her journey a soothing one.
On the day she is to leave for the foreign land, both mother and child held themselves in an embrace, they were shedding tears of joy, Sholape promise to send her mother luxuries immediately she starts working, she promised her mother her trouble days shall in no time get behind her. Her mother accompanied her to the airport where she boards her flight, Abike shed tears as she watched her daughter plane depart, she waved at the plane hoping to see her daughter again.
After five years, a postman came knocking on Abike's door, a loaf of bread was delivered to her; it was sent by her daughter who just graduated in the university. She was not too happy but satisfied that at least her daughter still had her in mind which is the joy of all parent.
Another five years have passed again, a postman came knocking again, she opened her door and received a parcel from the delivery man when she untied the parcel she found a bigger bread this time; Abike became aggrieved she swore at her self for living all her life to raising a child who is rewarding her with a loaf of bread. She took the bread and gave it out to her next-door neighbor, the neighbor in the course of eating found a strange object in the bread, it was a black diamond worth a 50million dollars, the neighbor was taken aback, he sold the diamond and relocated to a better place without Abike noticing.
After another five years had passed, the delivery man came knocking again, he delivered the parcel and left, she never bothered taking it inside, she moves to her friend's house and gave them the bread. When she left, her friend open the wrapper on the bread and started eating, while eating she saw a very big diamond worth a 100million dollars, she quickly took it to the point of sale where she made her fortune, she never shared her discovery with Abike.
Sholape returned from her overseas trip, she was surprised to see her mother still living in the old and filthy house; the mother herself was reluctant to welcome her daughter, she spoke out in anger; my daughter have I done wrong in fending for you, is a loaf of bread what I really deserve, I regret giving birth to you. Sholape was flabbergasted at her mother's utterance, she almost collapsed, the people around had to hold her to prevent her from falling. Sholape could not believe her ears, she dragged her mother and screamed; mother, aside from the first bread I sent to you, the other two has an expensive black diamond embedded in them.
When Abike heard these words, she could not fathom if she is in heaven or earth, she had given the wealth her daughter had labored for out as a gift to her friend and neighbor who never informed her of the fortune the bread contained, she learned the lesson of impatience in a hard way, she wept uncontrollably.
