After more than three centuries of conquest and colony of the Spanish empire, the independent feeling extended in America. In what was known as the New Kingdom of Granada, discontent manifested itself with the rebellion of the Comuneros and had as prologue the translation and dissemination that Antonio Nariño did of the Rights of Man.
But it was a symbolic of the act around the loan of a vase that lifted the uprising of the town of Santafé and what the liberating campaign proposed. The criollos looked for the independence of the Spanish crown and 20th July of 1810 planned to induce a popular revolt in which the settlers raised their displeasures before the Spanish mandate.
It was Friday, market day and mayor concurrence to the main square. At noon, Luis de Rubio approached the house of the Spanish Jose Gonzalez Llorente and borrowed a vase to decorate the table of Antonio Villavicencio. The imminent refusal allowed the intervention of Francisco Jose de Caldas and Antonio Morales, who immediately alerted the people of the affront of the "chapetón" (as they were called the Spanish) to the American people. Although Llorente became an event and there was no mayor of the city, the heterogeneous people who went to the main square attacked the viceroyalty, provoking a revolution that led to the imminent signing of the Act of Independence of Santafé, led by the decision of the Government Board. Although it was not the only revolution nor the most accurate, it is considered the official date of independence because it opened the sending of intense freedoms against the Spanish crown. It was the proclamation of a total independence that was obtained under the command of Simón Bolívar after a campaign that began in May of 1818 in Venezuela and finished in the Battle of Boyacá the 7 of August of 1819. Thus gave way to the Congress of Angostura and To the birth of the Republic of Colombia.
