To fulfill all righteousness. Here you have it
Some of the guys of the field army are quite advanced and different. Maybe they did more pushups or whatever. They have one of their receptors quite different from the ones found among their regular counterparts (the CCR5 gene has a 32 bp deletion thus there arises a mutant form of the CCR5 known as the CCR5 delta-32). Mr HIV has one approach which is interaction with these receptors so he cannot possess these ones. They ultimately defeat him and well, mission aborted.
Yea. I read that part. But I still don't understand how the immunity works. Is it by chance? Is it transmittable(the immunity) and could you explain why these genes are capable of being immune to HIV. If it's not too much trouble sir. Thanks.
Great. In biological systems, specificity is very important. Let’s use locks and keys as a simple analogy. A lock has a key tailored specifically for it. This is why we have different keys for different locks. Imagine our immune cells as having receptors (CD4 and CCR5) which act as locks and HIV as a key. Some individuals have some part of their locks altered (CCR5 is different from the usual one seen in normal people), so HIV which is the key can’t fit perfectly into the immune cells of these individuals and so cannot gain entrance into these cells. These individuals are automatically resistant
Oh. I get it now. Thanks a lot
