One of the giants in physics, Isaac Newton, once said, more or less, that in the world of thought and writing, a figure stands on the shoulders of previous figures. "If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants," that's exactly what Newton said. This pithy maxim certainly does not apply only in the field of physics. It can be said, in all areas of sciences and humanities, this maxim gets its justification. No exception in the literary area: a writer (a novelist, a short-story writer, a poet, or a playwright) becomes a writer because he/she read other writer(s).

But if we examine further, what is presupposed by the axiom of the English physicist is not just the continuity of a discipline, the assertion that a figure can not be separated from the influence of his predecessors (whoever the predecessors are: whether they come from traditions in their own country or traditions from other countries), and the impossibility of "creatio ex nihilo" in the time that has been so developed as it is today. The axiom of the inventor of the theory of gravity also implies a kind of interesting 'suggestion': to appear and stand out, a new writer in a particular field must be brave to be insolent -- "standing on the shoulders of previous figures."

Yes, in order to be "seen," a new writer inevitably has to dare to make his predecessors merely as a foothold, to then reach higher 'peak'(s). If not, it is certain that he will be neglected, less towering than the old writers who have already become the giant figures, already become very famous and popular.

I believe that when writing, a poet, a novelist, or a short-story writer, or a playwright, consciously or not, imagines a model on his head (again: whoever and wherever the model is). Of success, at least, good or not, a work does not depend on which model or who influences it. The success, at least, of a work, among others, is determined by whether the work succeeds in distorting, rearranging, ruffling, parodying, exaggerating (and so on), one or several models, to then offering something that "New", reaching the "new peak."

Of course, whether or not it succeeds, whether or not it is good, of a work does not depend on which models or who influence it. The success, at least, of a workis determined, among others, by whether the work succeeds in distorting, rearranging, ruffling, parodying, exaggerating (and so on), one or several models, to then offering something "New", reaching "new peak"(s).

Thus, for all Steemians friends, and also for those who love to write and aspire to be writers, never worry if our work is influenced by other writers that we like, because it is indeed a necessity in a particular field of knowledge. All we need is optimism and hard work that with our perseverance we will surely surpass the writers who have influenced us, and produce works that will be timeless.***

TENTANG KEPENGARANGAN

Salam.

Iya aku posting pakai eSteem bro... kenapa Bro? Sering bermasalah ya eSteem?Terimakasih banyak, Bro @bahagia-arbi...

Sangat Setuju sekali,

Bener Mbak Etty genre tulisan seseorang memang sangat dipengaruhi apa yg dia baca...
