Learning with Memory Techniques: The Periodic Table of Elements (51-55)

This is an easy way to learn Antimony, Tellurium, Iodine, Xenon and Cesium. Learning with memory techniques is much easier than rote repetition. Especially when the images are already layed out to you in a clear and intuitive way. In this series we will memorize the Periodic Table of Elements by connecting it with the Visual Major System for numbers. We will cover five elements per post with special training images for all elements and numbers. Please check out our other episodes for more elements.

Elements Legend

Each element comes with a special training image. These contain the element number, a common application, a phonetically similar image for the name and the element symbol. The color of each training image indicates the element category.

51. Antimony

In the Visual Major System 5 = S or Z and 1 = T or D. With that we can create the word SUIT. The fiftyfirst element Antimony sounds similar like antimatter. This element is used in Mascara.

antimony
You are floating through space in a space suit towards a cloud of antimatter. There is nothing you can do except for going in style. So you open up your visor and put mascara on your lashes.

52. Tellurium

In the Visual Major System 5 = S or Z and 2 = N. With that we can create the word SUN. The fiftysecond element Tellurium sounds like a tell + you and we can imagine that like whispering in someones ear. It can be used for vulcanization in rubber tires.

tellurium
You are sitting in the hot sun staring at the rubber tires of your bicycle. You are whispering into the ear of your love: "Look at the tires. I tell you something will happen!" And in that moment the tires catch fire like magic.

53. Iodine

In the Visual Major System 5 = S or Z and 3 = M. With that we can create the word SUMO and imagine their badge. The fiftythird element Iodine sounds like I dine. The element is often used for germicides and we can visualize that with a wound.

A sumo has just won the fight and shouts: "Now, I dine!" Two servants quickly bring a table with food to him into the ring while a doctor starts treating his wounds."
Come up with your own story or ask your students to that.

54. Xenon

In the Visual Major System 5 = S or Z and 4 = F or V. With that we can create the word SAFE. The fiftyfourth element Xenon sounds a bit like zen and we can imagine stacking rocks for that. The element is used in Xenon arc lamps for projectors.

50. Cesium

In the Visual Major System 5 = S or Z or soft C. With that we can create the word SAUCE. The fiftyfith element Cesium sounds like a Cesar (it is named after him). The element is used in atomic clocks for example.
