I've faced this issue last evening when I shared my post from Steemit on Facebook! I woke up today to a warning from Facebook that my link could be spam! My last few shares on my account didn't do particularly well either.
I've been Leveraging Facebook To Promote Steemit Content and the results have been wonderful! It has created incredible awareness about the platform in my social circles resulting in over 100+ signups just from my regular Steemit promotion. I'm yet to level up my game here!
But over the last few days my engagement on my links have dropped on my personal account so I changed my tactics to share images and link the Steemit URLs as a link in my FB status update. This approach is working fine for me.
Today, in a notification Facebook asked me if this was spam but I've marked it as, 'Not Spam'. I wonder if FB is shadow banning Steemit again?
Have you faced these issues and what do you think about Facebook's approach to links shared on our personal accounts on this old social media platform?
Update:
So, FB now will delete this post if I choose not to!
I think this is BS on part of Facebook to even send me a notification like this. People share utter crap and that gets passed around as viral content! There's so much real spam on Facebook and this is what they want to do to authentic users sharing valuable content!
Any opinions?

Steemit is YouTube 2.0 and Facebook 2.0 at once, and much more than that. Insteading of mining as POW (Proof of Work), it's contribution to the network. Sharing. Of course Facebook and YouTube don't like Steem. It's either cooperate or lose, and Facebook doesn't seem to want to cooperate yet.

facebook wont stop till we threaten a lawsuit! There are rights users have on these sites and facebook cant egally clai to hae ths open market and then censor peopel selectively, its not some private property thatthey can do whatthey wish, they WILL face consequences, legal or economic! faceboom will begin BLEEDINg users untill they depseratly begin offering to pay users, bt they wont pay thenm barely anything and it wont work, steemit will experience what Reddit expeineced when Digg died and everyone Mass Exodused rom Digg.com to reddit a decade ago!yes @firepower you MUST call them out on their bullshit here and DEMAND they give a reason why competitor links are being banned which violates SO many anti trust and anti monopoly laws!
remember Digg.com? or Myspace or Frindster? Yeah Facebook will be like Myspace or Friendster! Noone will be using it anymore!
@shankar and @ackza thanks guys! I'm going to continue posting there and give them a finger while at it! lol!

Big time!
Since here I am a bit more anonymous I can share on steemit stuff I wouldnt share on facebook. As I use Facebook only to keep in touch with friends and family and post on of those "look at what beatiful beach I am" pictures.
For people who promote their content on Facebook it is a different story for sure, but there I have no experience to talk about it.
As I think they still can co-exist as steemit is about sharing ideas, stories etc and facebook has more of a personal touch to me, it is still a business and of course if you promote a potent competitor on their site they will not be happy about it and it is also their right imo as they want to protect their company of course.
Things will get really interesting if steemit will also go to a more personal level as for now it is more like a better reddit imo.
Every company is gonna offend by its competitor, i mean look at YouTube when you post some link from YouTube Facebook will only show it to a few people even if you have millions of likes or followers, the same will be happening to steemit even if they allowed it on their site in the first place, Facebook want to control the whole internet and also want to destroy YouTube as they recently acquired the services of big Hollywood studios to make original shows which will cost Facebook 30 million per episode, we can criticize YouTube but at-least they are paying the creators something, on the other hand Facebook is not paying the creators a penny @firepower
What's more frustrating is when I try to show people how a video I share through YouTube won't get watched but a video I share through Facebook gets all kinds of pay and they either don't believe me or don't care T_T The only way around it is to do as the OP does and share an image with a URL and now it seems even that is under fire :-o
Does it really surprise you that a direct competitor to Facebook is being treated as spam?
Not really. But its a good sing. Means they are scared. If they are scared, means Steemit has the potential to outplay Facebook. So... nothing to get mad about, time will tell. Saionara Zuckerberg !
Yes. and right fully so.
They might have found out the true potential of steemit, maybe that's why they are trying to show people steemit is a scam.
This may be their strategy to take out any other platform that can take their place as they want to keep the social media leaders crown.
I know Reddit doesn't like Steemit links either, it will only slow the change and not stop it however. "Don't post anything for free" will resonate within people all over the world.
Sure it will resonate, steemit has taught me and everyone else a very beautiful thought, "Our opinion matters".
The next two years will be really interesting to follow.
Sure it would be.
What kind of reaction do you think will come from Facebook, Twitter etc. if Steemit really starts to gain traction?
Facebook Reward points?
OK interesting.
Facebook = government tool.
facebook=shit tool.
amen.
Now Facebook might end up buying Steemit as they did it with Instagram.
hahah they ccant buy steemitthats like facebook "Buying" biitcoin lol go ahead and buy as many bitcoins as u want lol facebook can buy as much steempower as they want LOL driving proce up making us all rich, and we could just all flag them whenthey try posting here LOL also wtnesses here ahve control over the blockchaina nd we can hodla vote and all MUTE facebooks account etc so many possiiities for revenge hahah wjust kidding but im sseriousy aoout how faceook CANT buy steemit LOL
true.
The only way they can buy steemit is buying all the steem tokens which will drive the steem price very high..And even then there will be people who will not sell their sp or steem for that high price because its worth more than what fb can offer..
Loved this idea.
I don't think so people of this community would be interested in being operated by zuckerberg.
would that be a good or a bad thing ?
It would be a bad thing, as Facebook work hand in glove with the CIA who are known for targeting individuals with harassment based on the intel they gather about the person of interest. Believe me, you don’t want that kind of attention.
thanks man
they are suckers.
thanks for the insight ghost, but could you explain how this may or may not happen to steemit as well? Wouldn't the CIA be able to penetrate this platform just like FB?
If facebook buys steemit.com to hide content and control narrative people would just move to busy.org or any other site using the steem blockchain.
I don't think facebook is interested at all to buy steemit.com which is why they are censoring steemit link.
yepp.
That would not be anything because that would not happen in any case.
I've had that thought for a while now. It's very possible FB purchases Steemit.
Or maybe Steemit will buy Facebook sooner or later :) (I mean we all)
We've been dealing with this type of thing from Facebook for years. We need to support sites like Steemit and onG.social (onGcoin.io) who are giving back to the communities that provide the value and get off of these crntralized data collection sites that are sifting and selling all of our data without our consent!
How does ongcoin work?
I can only say that steemit is providing me something, don't know anything about the other one so can't say what it provides.
But steemit can't replace facebook. I don't understand why that comparison always comes up. They're completely different things. Facebook is, well, facebook. Social media. It's all about profiles, communicating, (re)connecting, networking, and self marketing/ego boosts, etc.. Steemit is more of a blogging platform. It doesn't even have direct messages (as far as I can tell). I'd say it's a competitor to medium for example, or maaaybe reddit, not facebook.
I don't use facebook by the way. It has no appeal to me. I'm not defending it or calling it better than steem. Just saying they're different things and not in competition with each other.
I agree. I use both steemit and Facebook, but I would never use steemit the way I use Facebook. Facebook is more spontaneous and low level, while I want to post more valuable content on steemit.
"First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win."
Mahatma Gandhi
True! Time to say Good bye Facebook.
That's how facebook deal with anything that can be a threat for them. If they don't like it. You are spam lol I remember when TSU was growing and actually get some online attention they have also blocked their links.
Pretty convenient "Community Guideline" by the looks of things...
I don't think they can stop Steemit and it's interesting that they are making an effort to try. Thanks for a great post! Lots of nonsense happening on FB and people won't keep liking and using the platform if they aren't careful...
I AGREE! Still trying to figure out how to make my voting power go up.
me too!
Where are you from?
@judym Yeah, I agree.
I am beginning to suspect the same. Any Steemit links I share on my FB doesn't do well at all. There are barely 5 likes at the most. I suspect the link even goes to people's walls.
I agree. Facebook is scared, and I suspect there is some type of protocol that kills it
I share my blog posts to Facebook once in a while, and they get shown on my timeline. What I've noticed is that they've been getting less attention.
When I posted a photo collection in January, it got around 30 likes.
Whenever I post a photo collection now, only 1 friend likes it. :P
I used to get a lot of traffic from Facebook to Steemit, but times have changed! :'(
Interesting.. how do you make your voting power go up do you know?
Voting power goes up automatically. It goes down by voting. So... Vote a bit less and your voting power will go up.
To get more influence here you should invest in some Steem Power ;)
Thanks makes sense. What does steem power do, and how do you get it?
Steem power gives you more curation power on the platform.
It's a long-term investment in the platform, and pays back by gaining more influence.
Long-term means: it takes a while to "pay out" your steem power and it happens in phases. You can get it by powering up in https://steemit.com/@pjcswart/transfers
For if you're interested in the platformhttps://steemit.com/steemit/@calamus056/steemit-curating-rewards-explained-for-beginners
As a facebook guy, they just hate links... they been doing it to all YouTube links also owned by google. Yeah they censor tons of links, I already know if we use a steemit link, the reach is so bad it rarley gets any engagement... I need to do further testing. 🤔😀
Yes, that's really bad.
Because Steemit is the flippin shit and a huge threat for FB :)
They can't show people that there are a lot better business models for users out there :) fuck fb
Yeah! That's right. Steemit all the way now!
Facebook "Did you publish that? It looks like spam. " 😅 😏
So ironic "How I made $70000 in 11 Months Using a $300 Pre-Owned Laptop, Steemit and 10SP! #Steemit "
Hahaha! Ironic indeed! Here we go!
is it because they are TOM & JERRY
Haha yes! Could be!
Facebook SUCKS!!
for sure and twitter too :)
No doubt about that.
hahaha cool :D, the control is kicking in there :P
Facebook always blocks threats to its platform... Steemit is no exception.
Always!
Great article, thanks for sharing. I'm checking out your other articles
Thanks.
True. Facebook needs to get their things right.
facebook is not lasting for a lot of people.
most thing i get there nod is adds and some funny video's
FU facebook .......
hahahahhaa
Haha! This cracked me up!
Really? Fakebook deleting posts about steemit? What a surprise.... hmm looks like Fbibook is losing their members...haha.....Steemit all the way...freedom of speech
Facebook is going crazy! Steem all the way!
May be they treat steemit as a content farm?
Probably.
#WhyIDontUseFacebook
In a week I earned more on Steemit and met far cooler people than during 10 years on FB as Zuckerburgs Zombie
FB don't pay any Taxes in the UK because they are our government approved snoopbook.
Facebook is not a shared economy, Zuck owns 30 % and some very rich ppl own the rest.
So FB must be very worried about the Steemit shared economy, to start doing this blocking and deleting of Steemit posts so soon.
But IMO trying to get people off FB is like trying to get people off anti-depressants. Part of their brain has been chemically lobotomised, so it makes it very difficult for them to make decisions about anything which is not prescribed by FB.
haha very well said and I concur with you on all your points! :)
'Cuz they scared of our FUTURE!
Steemit is the future! Period!
.!😉
Steemit will be the next facebook!
Steemit will go way beyond Facebook! :D
I dont trust facebook Period!!! however nothing will stop steemit from being future leader, period!! good job
Yeah! Steemit is the next big thing!
I agree, thanks. Feel free to check my latest blog post for free crypto
Can you earn Steem by encouraging others to join Steemit?
Steemit has no referral rewards system but you can always participate more here and earn more Steem. :)
prime example of unfair business practices by the Fb :P
Yeah! Nothing new.
they're smelling dangerous competition
Yeah, true.
Classic hit from the FB mafia right there 😈
source
You have to stick to your own territory my friend. Wrong step and they will get you.
this caught me off guard haha thanks for the laugh.
😀
They're obviously feeling the threat of competition...It's a brave new world and us WE THE PEOPLE deserve to have the power of good into our hands now. I really believe that the STEEMIAN Nation has no idea of the enormous imact that we will soon have on the human race! Cheers to the soon to be new leader in social media! -peaz ✌
True. Cheers to that!
Just another symptom of the disease known as facebookitis.
The cure: Steemit and other uncensored media.
I am moving over to ONG.SOCIAL: uncensored, decentralized, monetized...
Their ICO is in 3 weeks- come on over to the dark side with me!
Had me in splits. Good one!
Facebook, like banks with crypto world, has become an entity that whats exclusive rights about your private data, so they can exchange it with governments for benefits. They don't want you to benefit from anything.
Haha! True that.
I think poor old Mark Suckerburg and his dev team, are shit scared or the new kids on the block taking up a piece of his pie.
Keep going strong Steemit, our day of becoming number 1 is coming.
Just keep the faith and keep Steemin on.
Yes, Never give up. Steem it all the way! Cheers!
Haha!
I think Facebook is probably shadow banning Steemit content because it's competition. It's obvious that the company wants to limit the growth of any competing social media service. While Facebook does not exactly ban other competing services, as in you can still post Twitter and YouTube links, they typically favor and prioritize their own service. For instance, a video hosted directly on Facebook get significantly more views and shares compared to a video hosted on YouTube.
It would not surprise me at all if Facebook is doing something similar to Steemit to prevent the competition from growing.

Thank you. Do keep following.
Ugghh, Facebook.... it's kinda like momma always used to say.... "When the diarrhea splatters the roaches will scatter..."
gross, your momma said that? :P
Absolutely... she also used to say FUCK THA POLICE every morning before breakfast.... I miss her....
Woah!!
Facebook is nothing but a tool to make Mark more and more rich
yeah so he can kick out more native hawaiians from their ancestral land, I hope he gets kicked out of hawaii
follow me back and check my blog too thank you.
Following buddy :)
thank you warrenvee
True. Steemit will take over them for sure.
The first thought that came to my mind is "Wow, that's a good sign of our community's growing power" :)
hell yeah! First they ignore you then they laugh at you then they try an silence you then they try to kill you and then you win
Oh, yeah, absolutely!
Facebook knows the potential of Steemit. They scaredddd
Yeah, true that. Steemit has wonderful potential
Well, for one it's great to see how we're all aware and sharing the behvaior facebooks wants to exhibit towards Steemit. As the general consensus: Facebook is scared. Obviously we know that with a growing platform like Steemit, not only does it show overwhelming stature to be the next powerhouse, but I truly believe that Steemit will to do facebook what facebook did to MySpace--see the correlation there? What happened after Facebook officially took over the world? Tom had to sell MySpace and take his talents and assests else where. What do you think is going to happen to Zuckerberg when Steemit approaches Facebook pound for pound? The question at this point isn't if Steemit will conquer Facebook, the true question is WHEN.... @firepower
It might happen with time. Lets hope!
People spend time on Facebook and Steemit. Time is limited & premium for all (24 hrs a day) and time is money.
On Steemit your time gets converted to money. On Facebook it gets converted to likes which don't bring any money. 'Likes' are very cheap in Facebook. Value is NIL except some momentary gratification to the author.
You can't pay bills with ' 'likes' but you can with $$$.
To cut the story short, Facebook may censor all the crypto pages in future. Steemit in particular. It does not bode well to the old age giants to have a new age new concept social platform that pays to post .@firepower, I don't think it is difficult to comprehend. This steem movement is perhaps one of the serious threats received by Facebook in recent times. If you look at the future say in an year's time, I see a potential of lakhs of Facebookians migrate to Steemit. The reason is not difficult to guess.
Yeah for sure! Time is money and all that and I don't want to give it away to Facebook!
I kneew this would happen!
Solution? Use a URL shortening website like
Google RL shortener! https://goo.gl/ and just use shorttened links, and create ur own preview image usinga screenhot of the link preview, dont post it tho just post an iage of it from the screenshot and ppst the shortened goo.gl link LOL
Also we can ALL juststart "spamming" facebook with steemit!
maybe facebook is just testing thos out on steemit user who only post about steemit, i know that I only post sbout steemit on afcebook! i leave a steemt link n EVERY faceboo comment i make!
Very good way to fool FB. But I rather leave Steemit grows on its own until its big enough. Right now we better settle the existence of cryptos. Not fight everything at the same time.
fighting everything at the same time is how we settle the existence of cryptos and cryptos are already solid and are never going away
We CAn change everything because we have Soo many people o do so much work! i w split up teh work the way ethereum disttributes the work or folding at home disttributed coomputing, we can TOTALLy do alll teh work w neeed!!!
OMG lets create an opensoource blocchain WORK dissemination Blockchain Compartimentalization program to allow a company to split work up and give certain peopel ceryain jobs, track their progress, all with AI omg this is amazing
A lot of comments here suggesting Facebook are scared of the future of social media, ie Steemit.
Sure, they're probably onto what Steemit is and are aware of it, and maybe it is true that they are starting to bury Steemit.com posts just like they bury Youtube clips now to favour their own videos.
But how long until the Zuckercoin comes out and everyone goes back to Facebook?
I've been on Steemit for 3 days and I really like it's potential. But if it doesn't get it's "user friendliness" up to par with the likes of FB then they're sitting ducks just waiting for it all to be pulled out from underneath.
I'm trying to get my mum on here so she can see if she can make some coin off the amount of dog pictures she posts haha, but it's not a very easy platform to grasp to some.
Thanks for the post. I'm interested in other's thoughts on this.
Really good point. I struggle with that too, just wish it was a little easier and more pleasing to the eye. I think there is a learning curve that might make it hard for people to adjust, especially if you are not used to making content. It is a bit more effort, but when you think about all the work we do for FREE for FB, it's kinda worth it. Bet your mum would do well! Hahaha, good luck! @ecoknowme
So I covered the whole "How long before someone buys steemit?" the other day.
As @steevc said
I doubt Facebook is at the Running scared stage yet but I'm not surprised they are putting up barriers for people trying to promote a service that could potentially lose Facebook users. Remeber, when you post links on other social media services you are in fact saying "Hey come and join us over here and start earning rewards for exactly what you're are doing on here for nothing in return!"
No wonder Facebook wants to block your content. ☺
Good point and thank you for including your article, which I also enjoyed. I hadn't thought about the safety that block chains provide and how it prevents monopolies. We are living in interesting times and it is nice to be here. I wrote an article trying to encourage people to bring people over from FB to here, now wondering if it'll be spammed. Fingers crossed! Thanks for you comment, upvoted and following. @ecoknowme This is the article I mentioned: https://steemit.com/steemit/@ecoknowme/mass-exodus-getting-your-talented-and-interesting-facebook-friends-to-join-steem-it-my-challenge-to-all-steemers
Followed you back. :-)
Facebook , Google the Giants in the inet industry have one sole aim
to destroy the competition and what they are not able to destroy
they going to buy them to control them thats how they operate
as you can see very successful ! THanx for this Post
and SteemON
Thank you. Steem on!
@firepower i am afraid someone is a little bit afraid of loosing its ibmense power and comercialise our data... http://investorplace.com/2017/06/facebook-inc-fb-fear-social-media-kingslayer/#.WVOOu70hXqA
Thank you for the share.
Thanks a lot @firepower ! Your success in steemit is So inspiring! Hope i can reach this level of quality one day! Followed mate! Greetings from Spain!
Maybe Facebook is just scared of Steemit taking over them. One day steemit will sure take over Facebook.
Yes, Indeed. Steemit is the next big thing. Time to say goodbye to Facebook.
One Day Facebook will be on the run! its just a matter of time?
It will for sure.
lol that's quite interesting to know. As others have said I think facebook considers steemit a rival and is doing it intentionally
True that. Facebook is afraid!
