INTRODUCTION
Before teaching values to our family it is essential that we practice them first, we can not demand that our children do something that we ourselves do not live.
Let's see some of the values that as a Christian family we can not lose but we must encourage, to make our children good people.
I) FIRST VALUE: RESPECT (1 PETER 2:17)
- Respect is the basis of values, because respect makes us accept our own value and the rights of people, and makes us live together in peace.
- Respect for the rights of others is peace.
At home we must teach respect to the elderly.
At home we must teach respect to the authorities, ie teachers, police officers, directors, etc.
At home we should show respect to parents, from the greeting in the morning, to the good night to go to bed.
II) SECOND VALUE: THANKSGIVING (PHILIPPIANS 4: 6)
- We must teach our children to be grateful in everything that can be given to them.
- Do not teach our children to belittle what we have but to give thanks knowing that gratitude opens the doors for God's blessing in our lives.
- Our children listen in our mouth words of thanks or words of complaint and contempt.
- If we do not instill the gratitude they will not live contentedly.
III) THIRD VALUE: RESPONSIBILITY (ROMANS 14:12)
- What is responsibility: compliance with obligations, obligation to respond to our actions.
- Our children should know that their failures are not primarily parents but themselves.
- We do not cover the irresponsibility of our children
IV) FOURTH VALUE: HONORITY (LEVITICUS 19:13)
- Honesty is integrity in the act, is that person who over his economic need makes prevail in his act fair and right.
- We can not allow our children to take home objects that we do not know where they come from.
- Does not realize that their children buy things that they normally can not pay, has not asked where they come from?
- We must teach our family that although we have many needs that is not an excuse to get things in a fraudulent way = to get back on the bus, to stop paying in the store, etc.
- Illustration of today's newspaper report: girls who sell their bodies and sell drugs to pay for their studies, that is not pleasant in the eyes of God and brings consequences to our lives
V) FIFTH VALUE: HONESTY (EZEKIEL 16: 8)
- Honesty is a moral value that has to do with the truth, the pure, a man and an honest woman has several qualities: decent, decent, demure and modest.
- We promote dishonesty when we allow our daughters to dress in an undismayed manner.
- But how can we demand our children to be decorous if we are not, if we use dishonest clothes, if we act in a dishonest way, (the friend who sleeps at home)
- When we become cover-ups of the dishonesty of our sons or daughters for being pimps
VI) FIFTH VALUE: LOVE (JOHN 13:34)
- We must teach ourselves to love each other within the family, not to hate each other, not to belittle ourselves.
- When there is love there is tolerance, there is forgiveness, there is harmony
- But the main love that must exist is the love of our god.
Proverbs 6:20
My son, obey your father's commandment, and do not give up your mother's teaching.
Acts 16:31
believe in the Lord Jesus; so you and your family will be saved, "they replied.
