Text: 1 Tim 4: 12.
Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. Amen.
Oh how we love to be recognised; we really do! We want the adult world to know that we exist and have got something to offer. We think they are hostile to us because we are inexperienced, so we mostly disagree with them! In our own eyes, the experiences gathered from childhood till now are enough to catapult us into the future.
Our confidence is further boosted when we discover the text above which says; "do not let anyone look down on you because you are young."
This is where we will not respect the elderly anymore. Any attempt to correct, rebuke or teach us, is received as adults "despising" us because we are young; so we rebel, resist and foolishly argue our way through every correction.
But you see, when we have read the text above, we don't quote anything after the first sentence. And it’s deliberate, because we really don't like the last sentence actually; it is full of responsibility.
If the text is fully read and meditated on, one will realise that its true meaning interprets this way: If you don't want anyone to look down on you because you are young, then you must set an EXAMPLE for all believers in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity.
Precious One, the Word of God is so true, because, no one can ever look down on a person setting example in the area of speech, conduct, love, faith and purity.
And how do we perfect these virtues in us so that we become examples to other believers? Simple, it is:
ii. By being consistent in prayer.
iii. By humility (the kind that allows us to learn from godly men and even the ungodly, to know how to live for Christ all the days of our lives).
iv. By walking in righteousness.
v. Being diligent with work (domestic, academic or profession).
vi. By inculcating love and respect for all without discriminating
Once we practice these things, we will be like Jesus, both in the mind and at heart. The wisdom that comes from fearing Him will keep all our "foolishness" away; till we have a discerning heart to redeem the times because the days are evil.
Prayer
Begin to pray now, intercede for all young people; from children to the youth. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill us with humility, obedience, wisdom and the zeal for work. We have so much to offer our generation, but that will not fully manifest until we allow the Holy Ghost to work on (and in) us.
Then the excellence of Christ will follow us where ever we go and brighten everything we do. Our youth becomes renewed and our lives, a living example to all others who want to know HIM and the power of His resurrection.
AMEN
