Matthew 7:24-27 (NIV)
24 Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.
Foundation is the base on which buildings are erected. A foundation is the most important thing in a building because if you get it wrong then the whole building is wrong. If the foundation is not well laid, every other effort is a wasted effort because in a short time, the building will collapse.
So, if men can spend time, money and resources on the foundation of a building that will not last for eternity, how much more is your life. Our individual lives worth much more than buildings. Our lives as a Christian must be built on a solid foundation. The Bible says in Psalms 11:3
if the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?
We should ensure that we are not careless with our lives. If we want to enjoy stability this year, we must start rightly.
From the passage above(Matthew 7:24-27), Jesus was teaching the people. The teaching started in chapter 5 of the book of Matthew. It was actually a long preaching and when He was about to round up the preaching, He said anyone who hears His word and put it into practice will be likened to a wise builder who built his house on a firm foundation and when storm comes, the house stood firm. One the other side, anyone who hears His word and does not obey will be likened to the foolish builder who built his house on sand and when rain comes, the house fell flat.
Comparing the wise builder and the foolish builder, we see that these two were exposed to equal opportunity and equal challenge but at the end one stood and the other fell. What happened was a result of what they did with what they heard.
The question now is what are you doing with the word of God that you hear today? Are you only hearing the word and not doing the word?
As a Christian, you have to build your life on a solid foundation and to do so, you have to obey the word of God. A life built on a solid foundation will stand the test of time and will not fall when storm comes.

Jesus Christ is the only solid rock where a solid foundation can be built, all other land is sinking ground.
