"One possibility is that Facebook could adopt a similar model to Steemit – a decentralized social network that operates on the blockchain.

It’s up to Steemit’s users to police the site, not a central authority. And the platform rewards its users for good content with small amounts of cryptocurrency and penalizes users for spam and “fake news.”

Unfortunately, I believe the author is correct.

This could have some very negative reprecussions.

hola buenas tarde me parece una buena noticia, pero cuales serán las repercusiones negativas al ser facebook, una autoridad central.

While I dont read or speak Spanish, I do use Google translate!

Zuckerberg has enough money to buy out almost everyone.

Thats what I find troublesome.

He has enough technology and money to become a digital dictator.

How does a person or group of people fight to prevent such a thing?

I've been hearing that this is pretty much a done deal. With the crypto meltdown over the last while there are many who say that very soon there will be some consolidations between the big guys and only the strong will survive. A major house cleaning with across the board international regulations to boot. I don't think the World Bank or any other bank could ever get their hands on crypto though. The genie will always be out of the bottle. We're in for one heck of a ride. By the way, have you checked out Cindicator (CND)? Not sure about it much but it may have the solution for you to enjoy the best of both worlds. I wish I had the talent, the time and the money. Trying to work on all three.

Their greed will get in the way. Just like YouTube's is doing. They will not be able to stomach one red cent going to the masses. They may try it, but it will crash and burn.

I sincerely hope you're right!

What the Steemt community needs is rapid expansion with a lot of users who refuse to sell out.

Zuckerberg has enough money to do a lot of nefarious things...

(you hear an engine rev and horn honk)
MEEP! MEEP!
(the window on the humvee rolls down to reveal a warm smiling face)

(the window rolls up and the engine roars as it drives to the next person on the list)

I'm @shadow3scalpel and with the help of my protege, @chairborne, we are actively assisting veterans, retirees and active servicemen and women here on Steemit. We feel it is our 'duty' to support each other. Any questions or comments you may have, simply respond to this comment, thank you!"
