Each and every time the subject of steemit and facebook comes up, its always in context of competition. You get to read and hear things like “steemit is the new facebook”, “steemit will do to facebook what facebook did to myspace”..All this from Steemians ofcourse rooting for steemit to surpass facebook in time to come and be the number one social network in the globe. We would all love that to happen right? And it can happen because as they say “ anything is possible”. Competition is good, it inspires and lets an individual or group of individuals aspire and stay focused to achieve a particular goal.
However have you ever stopped to ponder how BIG a facebook steemit/steem partnership would be? And what this would do to steem as a cryptocurrency? If steemit inc could somehow get to cuddle up with facebook. sometimes getting in bed with and riding on the back of the competition is more beneficial.
Facebook is the biggest social network on earth right now and there is no disputing that. With up to 2 billion active users/ month, THAT IS HUGE, and now also taking into consideration facebook owns whatsapp and instagram, both subsidiaries of facebook having massive patronage, that probably increases that figure significantly.
Steemit is young, just about a year and a half old and going by @arcange recent steemit statistics, steemit has about 60k active users/ month, that doesn’t seem like much but steemit definitely has a bright future, especially with the SMT (smart media token) innovation that has just recently been announced by steemit inc. I have had the priviledge to read post on SMT made by renowned steemians like @jerrybanfield @donkeypong , @nanzo-scoop and they are all of the opinion that SMT is nexlevel propeller for steem no doubt about this.
I think instead of steemit seeing facebook as a competition and vice versa, they should find a way to partner up using the smt platform when it launches, @ned should take the first step and reach out to mark and market the smt innovation to facebook, ( and reddit and the likes),facebook would either launch their own coin on the smt platform or adopt steem for use on facebook. it will be a huge win win for both parties. Facebook already has a make and receive payment function on the messenger app and also gearing to introduce same feature into whatsapp so if a steem/facebook partnership were to happen steem would probably without doubt surpass bitcoin in transaction volume and network effect and take our beloved steem to the moon and beyond. Also it probably will boost up facebook’s stock price that is sitting at $179 right now. To put it in the words of @cryptogee
Ultimately Steemit and Facebook can and will survive side by side

Personally I wouldn't like it if there were a combination of facebook and steem. Steem is a decentralized platform, which means that nobody monitors what you want to express. There is enough platform that controls or tries to control people. Steem has to stay as he is. That's why we're here, and that's why we love him. Steem is a free space. May this never change.
nice post, steem will definitely be popular if facebook launches its coin on the smt platform, this is food for thought for steemit inc.
Facebook are a whale, they only partner with other whales, Steemit is a minnow.
If they can't acquire us, Facebook will not be interested, and they'll only want to acquire if usage is in the tens of millions. A wee while to go yet I reckon :-)

The end of facebook is near 😂😂😂😂
They compete with other social networks, now steem and it's communities will compete with facebook. And snetch the crown that they are wearing from past few years.
Facebook is centralized platform, they don't allow steem to be their partner. And I have a reason behind it. They are earning huge amount of money and if they partner with steem then I think they will not earn that much amount. Wondering how ???
Let's take example of beneficiary accounts that esteem busy apps are using. They are earning a certain % of their users earning. Not the full amount. If on an average a user is earning 10 $ from a post and they have set 10% as their beneficiary earning then they are only earning 1 $ from a post.
