Hello Steemit community! Star Wars books are something that greatly enhance the Star Wars universe. When Disney acquired Lucasfilm, the old expanded universe was set to side so that new cannon can be made by the House of Mouse.
One of the book trilogies that were amazing as I grew up as a kid was the Thrawn trilogy. For those not steeped in the star wars lore. Thrawn is a grand admiral with the Empire. He is blue with red eyes. And, he’s very calculating. The best part about this guy is that he analyzed the history of a people or planet before attacking or interacting with it. Because of this analysis, Thrawn was able to anticipate moves and strategy that would consistently out maneuver his enemies.
I would elaborate on what happened and how he died… BUT, that isn’t for this review as that information is no longer cannon. The blue skin, red eyes, and cunning and strategy based on the art of a people IS cannon.
This brings me to the novel “Thrawn” written by Timothy Zahn. To summarize very quickly… THIS BOOK IS AWESOME if you are a Star Wars fan. If you watched Star Wars Rebels, you would enjoy this as well because you would learn of the beginnings of Thrawn in the new Star Wars cannon. I won’t go too much into the story because it would be for you to read the book for yourself.
“Thrawn” begins on a remote planet where the Empire first meet Thrawn. There are a series of interactions that cause Thrawn to receive the interest of the Empire. This interest causes the Imperial navy to eventually bring Thrawn back to Coruscant.
Through out the story, there is the interaction back and forth between Eli Vanto and Thrawn. The story from Eli’s perspective is one where he initially is upset of his role with Thrawn. As he furthers the journeys with Thrawn he begins to enjoy the company and receives training where he gets very good with strategy.
As you further your journey into the novel, you travel from Coruscant to Imperial Training. Then, Thrawn moves into spacecraft and we follow the clashes we see from Thrawn. And, because of his cunning he rises through the ranks rather quickly.
The story ends on a climatic note. Thrawn continues his journey to Grand Admiral. And, you realize that in strategy you can work towards two goals simultaneously. You get a great insight into the mindset of Thrawn, his loyalties, and a thirst to read the follow on novel. I highly recommend this book! If you read it you will gain a greater appreciation of the role that Thrawn plays in Star Wars Rebels. And, at least with myself, you are praying that there will novelization of some type of what happens with Thrawn and Ezra after the space whales have taken flight from Lothal.
