ONE of the many questions I've been asked in this life of mine is if I'm a feminist.
While I wonder why I keep getting asked these question, but then again, I like to think I know why.
I got to study feminism as a course and I am well aware of the facets and the none documented facet of feminism: the most Nigerians edition, and I came to take my stand at my belief and also what informed my belief system.
I respect feminism and what it stands for.
I respect feminists and what they stand for and why they stand for what they stand for.
However, I came to a realization of my stance some years ago and good a thing I've stood by it.
I am a woman, a full woman and I am super aware of that.
I am a woman on a mission and my mission is visible to me.
I am a woman with a purpose and fulfilling purpose daily is the stance I have taken.
I am not a FEMINIST, not because feminism is bad, but because I chose not to and any who chooses otherwise has a reason for their choosing. For those who had no reason for their choosing, except that the feminism tag sounds woke. I am praying for you.
Why?
Because when the purpose of a thing is not defined and discovered, then abuse is inevitable. And abuse of word and struggle of feminism has become rampant.
I am not a feminist because I am more aware of MY power as a woman and I am comfortable with it.
I am not dragging anybody's feminism with them, so no one should drag my "womanity" with me.
I frown at when a woman is being maltreated and also when a man is being maltreated.
At birth, I was first human before my gender was known, and I choose to walk and live in that light.
One thing is CLEARLY VISIBLE, you won't disrespect me because I am a woman. And if you do, you may not like the reprimanding that would follow: whether subtle, cunning or harsh.
Next time, you are tempted to disrespect ANYONE, think again.
The world doesn't revolve around your complexion, gender or status.
