La devoción de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, en la Isla de Margarita, está ligada al hecho de su avistamiento por Cristóbal Colón. Su nombre, que también lo es de la Isla, se debe a la circunstancia de haber sido ésta descubierta el 15 de agosto de 1498, día de Nuestra Señora de La Asunción.
