There is just enough metal in a CD to trigger the detector to throw off the machine.
But you shouldn’t have any issue traveling with precious metals as long as it not over $10,000. I’ve traveled with metals many times. As a matter a fact, instead of bringing tons of cash to Europe when I went to Italy years ago. I brought 5 ounces of gold and converted it as I needed money.
