Kookie….😵‍💫

Afternoon everyone …..

When I first got back into collecting/stacking I was kinda going a little crazy. Jobs were very profitable and money was rolling in.

My initial thought was to try and buy the coins I had sold years before. But in looking at the prices of those coins over a decade later, that was not really an obtainable proposition.

So instead I went hard on semi numismatic coins and generic silver. I started buying series of coins immediately, since collecting was my first experience. Being a completionist that I am, that meant buying everything offered in that series.

So up until about 2000, I was buying not only one ounce coins of series, but two ounce and ten ounce if they were offered. Most of the ten ounce coins that I had have been sold off, in the last several years to add additional weight to my stack.

The ten ounce kookaburra coins became worth double what I bought them at, so I was selling them and buying as much silver weight as possible with the proceeds.

I’ve come across a few going through boxes from my private security place recently. So I thought I’d share one with you today.

It’s a 30 year old coin. It’s a 1994 ten ounce kookaburra coin. It’s worth roughly $400-$450 from what I’ve seen on sold auction listings. That’s more then double what I paid for it.

Many of these ten ounce coins are going to be sold off and replaced with generic silver ten ounce bars. So I’ll end up adding roughly an additional 5 ounces of silver per ten ounce coin.

These are a pain in the ass to store. Aside from being big and round, each coin is a different diameter and it’s ridiculous to sort out.

So here it is, the ten ounce monster:

Damn that's nuts. I bought a 10oz coin when I started stacking but I ended up trading it at a coin show in Portland. I like the detail on the 10oz coins but they're weird. Can't explain it I just would rather have a 10oz bar.

I remember that. I think you asked me if I wanted it. Wasn’t it a Lunar dog coin?

Yep.

Wonderful, @silverd510 !

Thanks Saver

Sounds like a much better return than flipping the one Ounce coin series.
