SCIENTIFIC PUBLISHING: CAN A CHANGE IN BUSINESS MODEL, CREATE JOBS?

The leading beverage making company globally, has so far been retained by the coca cola brand. They will do everything possible to keep that Coca cola recipe away from everyone to ensure her dominance in that sector.

Coca cola

Kindly pause for a while and imagine what will become of coca cola if other beverage making companies like Pepsi gets access to their recipe. That implies people having access to the product from any nearby shop; irrespective of the brand name attached to the container. The likely impact we’ll expect includes;

  • Increased number of companies producing that favorite drink internationally
  • Increased job opportunities which will likely be over 1000% compared to that created by coca cola
  • A boost in the respective governments’ economy
  • Drop in the income and profitability and staff base of the pioneer producers; while still dominating the market

The above scenario is not far from the current business model obtainable in the scientific publishing company called; the “Triple Pay System”. This business model entails;

  • Government funding of scientific researches
  • Scientists conducting the paid researches and deliver results to the publishers
  • Publishers engage other scientists to review the submitted manuscripts without payments; in a very opaque system
  • Publishers engages editors to proof read the work at an agreed fee
  • Publishers gets the work published
  • Research scientists and institution’s libraries still pay hugely to access these contents that they contributed massively in its production

Despite the above contributions; the business model is still bedeviled with restrictions to various categories of information available to the investors; that has the capacity to utilize them in springing up companies that can effectively address economic and job availability concerns to their respective nations.

While this seems like a very easy thing to do; I don’t see a sector controlling an annual inflow of about 19 billion dollars with a 35% profitability topping the likes of Google, Amazon and Apple; giving up on such status easily. A decade of mere attacks from the science community may not suffice; but for something whose time has come; nothing can stop it from happening. While the scientific publishing company will want to toe that Coca cola path; they remain dependent on the scholarly work of the research communities. When this community of scientists sees a platform that will give them that needed attention they clamor for; they’ll gladly move on.

Orvium

Orvium seems to be that platform that will be giving the scientific community what they are clamoring for, and is obviously coming mainstream to grant them those privileges that have been denied them for over 300 years. They are not only ensuring an open source platform, but will bring in series of innovations that will enable the research scientists and institutions to thrive and still make the generated information available for global utilization in evolving industries that will improve on the GDP of nations and create employment opportunities as a result.Below are some of the innovations and solutions offered by Orvium as against what is currently obtainable:

  • zero delay in publishing manuscripts; offering proof of existence
  • Affordable publication and access costs
  • Domiciliation of copyrighting and licensing rights to the author;
  • Transparency in peer reviews backed by public recognition and rewards for the reviewers
  • Collaborative platform for multi authorship of publications
  • Open source and freedom of subscription to journals
  • Blockchain based approach towards curbing predatory practices like plagiarism, idea ownership and registration
  • Social platform; enabling interactions between authors, reviewers and the global community.
  • Ability to update-manuscripts with a traceable history to the original
  • Secured platforms for the sharing of unpublished data with select scientists at author's discretion
  • Unique identity system for authors and their works; aimed at resolving issues bothering on impersonations,
    researchers with identical names, change of names, etc.

Orvium achieved the above stated; courtesy of the many blockchain and smartcontract technology features, fueled by the ORV token (the primary token on which the ecosystem runs); Artificial Intelligence, API technologies; etc.

The above stated features were against the:

  • Opaque and non-standard review processes between authors and the reviewers
  • Poor community reviews owing to the poor structure, recognition and reward for reviewing scientists
  • Selective and increased cost of publication
  • High cost of access to scientific results
  • Availability of few research backed data hence; inhibiting the scientific validation and collaboration process
  • Delayed in publication publications
  • Coveting of Copyrights and licensing rights of the researchers, by publishers. etc.

Having overcame the current challenges and proffered solutions and innovations on which the incoming business model will run; research based outputs will be made not only to the academics; but also investors and businesses men who’ll ensure new series of advances in medicine, education, industries and businesses hence; positive economic impact on nations and a corresponding job creation opportunities to the teaming unemployed population. With the Orvium challenge, the science community will also be happier going by the many innovations.

So to the topic, I’ll gladly say a big yes. A change in the business model will no doubt create jobs for the teaming population and also add to the economy of nations.

wow, interesting to know, thanks

wow; i love this.
Nice concept, Nice topic and good project.
will see more for myself with the white paper.

thanks Vera; but you didnt answer the question, what was your thought?

Orvium seems a little bit quiet; but i believe so much in this project. Cant just say why?

Lol,
They're not quiet; they're only been tactical.
A very big project; endeavor to check it out.

Nice article @karlblaise, am interested in this project, it will do well i believe

well constructed review about orvium, keep the good work

Thanks beautiful,
i'll definitely continue to do my best

Why is the project keep extending their ICO date? Does the project actually needs blockchain and why

I think a shift in ICO date has to do with not meeting the hard cap; that obviously is the issue am seeing presently in this case.
Hope you're picking up your own bit of the tokens?
