5 TV Shows You'll Want To Watch This Year

1. The Alienist

The Alienist, a new drama mystery that airs 22 january.  Synopsis:   The Alienist opens when a series of haunting, gruesome murders of boy prostitutes grips New York City. Newly appointed police commissioner Theodore Roosevelt (Geraghty) calls upon criminal psychologist (aka alienist) Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Brühl) and newspaper illustrator John Moore (Evans) to conduct the investigation in secret. They are joined by Sara Howard (Fanning), a headstrong secretary determined to become the city's first female police detective. Using the emerging disciplines of psychology and early forensic investigation techniques, this band of social outsiders set out to find and apprehend one of New York City's first serial killers.  Sounds interesting doesn't it? For me it sounds like a cross between True Detective and Mindhunter set in the 19th century New York. For all of you fellow mystery and crime loving individuals out there this is a must watch in my opinion.

2. Castle Rock

Castle Rock a new drama fantasy horror series that will air later this year. Synopsis:  Based on the stories of Stephen King, the series will intertwine characters and themes from the fictional town of Castle Rock. Trust me it's going to be a great anthology series. Just watch the teaser trailer.

3. Counterpart

The pilot episode already came out in december 10, the next episode will air in january 29. Synopsis:  Counterpart is about a mysterious world hidden beneath the surface of our everyday existence. Howard Silk is a lowly cog in the bureaucratic machinery of a Berlin-based United Nations spy agency. When Howard discovers that his organization safeguards the secret of a crossing into a parallel dimension, he is thrust into a shadow world of intrigue, danger, and double cross… where the only man he can trust is his near-identical counterpart from this parallel world. The show explores themes of identity, fate and lost love, posing the eternal question, "what if our lives could have been different?"  Academy award winner J.K. Simmons stars in this wonderful drama sci fi thriller that will keep you on edge until the end. Just check out the first episode if you don't believe me.

4. Reverie

Reverie is a new drama thriller tv series that will air in march 6. Synopsis:  A former detective specializing in human behavior is brought in when the launch of an advanced virtual reality program has dangerous and unintended consequences. Sounds like a black mirror episode doesn't it? Also starring the beautiful Sarah Shahi, a former hostage negotiator who must save people trapped in virtual reality program. Now tell me this doesn't sound appealing?

5. Altered Carbon

Altered carbon a new sci fi netflix tv series that will air in february 2. Synopsis:  ALTERED CARBON is set in a future where consciousness is digitized and stored in cortical stacks implanted in the spine, allowing humans to survive physical death by having their memories and consciousness "re-sleeved" into new bodies. The story follows specially trained "Envoy" soldier Takeshi Kovacs, who is downloaded from an off-world prison and into the body of a disgraced cop at the behest of Laurens Bancroft, a highly influential aristocrat. Bancroft was killed, and the last automatic backup of his stack was made hours before his death, leaving him with no memory of who killed him and why. While police ruled it a suicide, Bancroft is convinced he was murdered and wants Kovacs to find out the truth.  Sounds like a black mirror episode doesn't it? As far as I know netflix never disappoints, so keep your eye out for this one, and because it's netflix all the episodes will air on the same day.
