Things continue to progress so that I semi-retire. At least I have someone interested in caring for one of the ladies I care for. The target date is August 1. She is the one requiring the most work. Things should develop more this week.

Las cosas siguen progresando para que me semi-retire. Al menos tengo a alguien interesado en cuidar a una de las señoras que cuido. La fecha prevista es el 1 de agosto. Ella es la que requiere más trabajo. Las cosas deberían desarrollarse más esta semana.

My granddaughter, who is also a care provider, is interested in my 2nd person but has to wait until spring. I think I can wait that long on her. The lady is gone to a day program four days a week, which would give me some free time. She also is easier to care for. It may be good for me to transition like this. It will be different living alone in a big house.

Mi nieta, que también es cuidadora, está interesada en mi 2ª persona, pero tiene que esperar hasta la primavera. Creo que puedo esperar ese tiempo con ella. La señora va a un programa de día cuatro días a la semana, lo que me daría algo de tiempo libre. Ella también es más fácil de cuidar. Puede ser bueno para mí hacer la transición así. Será diferente vivir solo en una casa grande.

On Saturday, the family had a “Celebrations of Life” for my wife. It was more emotional than I thought, given the six months since her passing. Some of the family had not seen each other for 20 years. I paid for plane tickets for my stepson and his wife so they could come. He had been estranged from his mother and the rest of the family for most of the 20 years. My wife and stepson reconnected last year and had a lot of communication in 2022. I was so grateful that they reconnected and had the time to communicate, even though it was not in person. I think my daughter and her brother also made peace, and my daughter seems so happy having reconnected with her big brother.

El sábado, la familia organizó una "Celebración de la vida" de mi esposa. Fue más emotivo de lo que pensaba, teniendo en cuenta los seis meses transcurridos desde su fallecimiento. Algunos miembros de la familia llevaban 20 años sin verse. Pagué los billetes de avión de mi hijastro y su mujer para que pudieran venir. Él había estado alejado de su madre y del resto de la familia durante la mayor parte de esos 20 años. Mi esposa y mi hijastro se reconectaron el año pasado y tuvieron mucha comunicación en 2022. Me sentí muy agradecido de que se reconectaran y tuvieran tiempo para comunicarse, aunque no fuera en persona. Creo que mi hija y su hermano también hicieron las paces, y mi hija parece tan feliz de haberse reconectado con su hermano mayor.

I have the opportunity this upcoming week to get five days of respite care. I will be going away for those five days. The only cost is the transportation to the facility she will stay at. Her family will pay for that. I will not be paid during the five days and will pay someone to stay with the other person. I am packing some extra books to read while out of town. I will take one of my laptops so I can work with comments. This should be published before the weekend.

Esta semana tengo la oportunidad de disfrutar de cinco días de descanso. Estaré fuera esos cinco días. El único coste es el transporte hasta el centro en el que estará. Lo pagará su familia. Yo no cobraré nada durante los cinco días y pagaré a alguien para que se quede con la otra persona. Llevo algunos libros para leer mientras estoy fuera de la ciudad. Me llevaré uno de mis portátiles para poder trabajar con los comentarios. Esto debería publicarse antes del fin de semana.

Photographs/Fotografías

My cover photograph is a macro view of one of my peonies. As you can see, it is white with a heavy pink blush. It is a double peony, which adds to its beauty. The fragrance is lovely.

Mi foto de portada es una vista macro de una de mis peonías. Como puede ver, es blanca con un fuerte rubor rosado. Es una peonía doble, lo que aumenta su belleza. Su fragancia es encantadora.

The following two photographs are of another Peony, a beautiful red one. It is also a double. I think I have four or five varieties of peonies. I planted another peonies 19 years ago, and it has not bloomed. I am unsure of its type, but I plan to transplant it this fall so it is in the same flower garden as my others. It may take a year to establish itself, and then we will see what color it is the following year.

Las dos fotografías siguientes son de otra peonía, una hermosa peonía roja. También es doble. Creo que tengo cuatro o cinco variedades de peonías. Planté otra peonía hace 19 años y no ha florecido. No estoy seguro de su tipo, pero pienso trasplantarla este otoño para que esté en el mismo jardín de flores que las demás. The last two photographs for this publication are of my purple Iris. I believe it is called a Bearded Iris. They are always a welcome sight in mid to late spring.

I use a Canon EOS Rebel T5 for most photographs except where noted. I do have an older PowerShot Canon camera that I use from time to time.
