The problem in general can cause irrational cycle of thinking. Not acting on the rational way out of problem, gets us into circle of bad thoughts, impractical behaviors that make our day to day life unbearable.
Trying to solve a problem and succeeding in it is rush of self esteem and power in making your life the way you want to live, not in the way it was given to you situation to situation.
Knowing human nature, rational solutions sometimes don't work as a result of irrational human nature. We sabotage ourselves in many ways. Thinking and acting on rational solutions sometimes require impassive judgement, but we as humans have emotions that sometimes have a negative impact on the problem solving behaviors.
