The world is not as innocent as before when our forefathers had nothing but newspapers and books to read. Today, we have the Internet, filled with all kinds of information. You might even think God is an alien. Movies tell you how to find love. Books fill our minds with fantasies that girls think is the right kind of love for them. Thus, the fall of true love began.
We don't find our partners the way we used to. Expectations, criteria and all sorts of thoughts fill our heads and minds to the point that if you don't find him or her with everything on the list, they all strike out! There are far too many examples of people basing their expectations on mere fiction.
I was once that person. Celebrity obsessed is what I might call it. I was hoping to marry a K-pop star. That was me 4 years ago. Instead, I met my girlfriend and now my wife. After going through multiple rejections, I got an obsession, and my defence mechanism was to take her as my role model. The k-pop star. CHIC. Cute Hip Innocent Catholic.
Over the years, I developed a need to fill that void and thus, the k-pop star was the perfect model for my very girlfriend or wife. In the days leading to my Catholic camp, I thought that the star would be there at the camp. When I went there, and she wasn't there, my world shattered into a million pieces.
But...
My heart was still open to someone that was not her. I was still open-minded enough and focused on finding my CHIC. Then, that very camp, I found her.
Sometimes, it is a lot to open your mind and heart to the very person you were destined to be with. But I don't know how much misinformation there is in the books and movies. Or how everybody is still waiting for that handsome young man or that beautiful woman to finally meet you.
In the old days, you just ran with what you got. You go to school, you find someone. You go to work, you find someone. It's not based on expectations where you got to tick everything on your list for your life partner. Life and luck or fate and destiny were in play here. It was just how it was.
But now... everybody has so many things to do in their life. So many hobbies and interests to explore. Not to say Netflix, movies, TV shows, and video games to play to pass the time.
Thus, the fall of the marriage life began. There have already been reports that most young adults in the US are now single. That a lot of people around the world are not getting married. It's sad, but with the sales of so much media that just keeps feeding us fantasies that will never become true. We keep buying the lies and paying the media for all it provides us. That is big business, and it will never go away. Now we are dealing with a shrinking population that will never see it recover. At least, it will take a miracle to get that done.
There will always be hope that the world will one day see that media and real love is never a thing that you mix. If that day comes and people do what I did, I think more people will marry.
Our camp that I attended at 16 males and 32 females. We have news that 4 males from that 16 are engaged or married, including me. So I think that camp was the most successful of all camps like that ever.
We are truly blessed to have people to marry, and I hope that you will open your hearts and minds to the very person that you were meant to be with. Not a celebrity dream that will only take you down the road of loneliness.
Yes, relationships are still a pain in the butt. But I know and will always say that it is worth it.
