My thoughts on this news
It seems like weather breaking records are almost a daily occurrence these days. The highest temperature fluctuations are happening in the Arctic. According to this article on August 1st an estimated 12 billion tons of water melted off the Greenland ice sheet and flowed into the ocean. Because of the higher temperatures in Greenland this is happening almost daily during the summer. According to the Danish Meteorological Institute, the official weather service of Greenland, the ice melt is four times faster than what even scientists have predicted. The total amount of ice in Greenland would raise sea levels by 24 feet when it melts. This will not happen for hundreds of years, but at the rate we are seeing now, most likely a 2 to 3 foot sea level rise by 2050 is very possible.
