The Challenge of Democracy: Singapore, Turkey, Russia, China, India and Indonesia

Some of the world's major nations show that democracy does not correlate to the level of welfare or progress for a country.

Let's say Singapore, this country led Lee Kuan Yew several decades. Turkey, led by Erdogan since 2003 as prime minister, shows a considerable economic outlook. Erdogan became person of the year by Time magazine in 2008. In 2014 Erdogan quit as prime minister and was elected president of Turkey until now. The prime minister's power is typical of the parliamentary system of government is now turning to the presidential power-style presidential system.

The same tactic (from the PM later to become president) was also done Vladimir Putin. Russia achieved its best economic performance under Putin. A good economic outcome (Turkey and Russia) is a factor that facilitates Erdogan and Putin for the oldest in power, as is Lee Kuan Yew in Singapore.

While China is indeed undemocratic government, but during this turn of the top leadership of the state is governed by merit-system by the communist party, will meet a new chapter. Under the rules of 1982, the presidency was set for five years for two periods. Now steps have been taken to increase Xi Jinping's term of office. As Erdogan and Putin, the peak of China's economic achievement was achieved under the leadership of Xi Jinping.

There are two major non-Western democracies; India and Indonesia. India is under the control of the Hindu far-right group in which it comes with a spirit that threatens democracy.

And Indonesia under the government of the nationalist party is somewhat to the ki * i (debatable, but we may agree that M * rhaenism is the localized version of Sosi * lisme - left as the identity and symbol of the group and not the left I substantially feel), is experiencing a long battle with opposition. It may have been the greatest opposition-fighting fighter since the reforms, which seemed to threaten democracy itself.

For economic achievements, Indonesia does not show the same achievements as Turkey, Russia and China.
