I
Time exhumes man-buried honour
And ploughs up earth-buried woes
Time ploughs in old heroes
And tills up new stars
Time rears impossibilities
and ticks possibilities
Time sips in each worn world
And rears each new world
Time carves wide wounds
And heals every wound
Time is the cradle of democracies
Time is the graveyard for democracies
Time ticks lions to thrones
Time tames reigning lions.

O custodian of deeds and creeds
Final arbiter in man’s many feuds
Black box that chronicles all
When will you re-gain these bald lands?
When will you re-clothe these alopeciac hills?
When will you re-wet these dry valleys?
Time, old time, when will you open
Your lips to poison us with the minutiae
Of man’s timeless hewmanity to man?
When, O Time, will you tuck in
These trampling tyrants that we may
Fly free as birds, and swim free as fish?
